Will Rams take Josh Simmons in the 2025 NFL Draft?
Will the Los Angeles Rams use their first pick on an offensive tackle? One popular pick if they do has been Ohio State’s Josh Simmons and NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks was the latest to do it on Wednesday:
If Matthew Stafford and the Rams move forward together, continuing to build a fortress around the veteran quarterback has to be a top priority.
One reason that Simmons is showing up more often in the latter half of the first round than the top half is that he had season-ending knee surgery in October. Agent Drew Rosenhaus told the media that Simmons will be ready for the start of training camp, which is what you’d expect an agent to say.
NEGATIVES
— Allows slippery run defenders to access his edges late in the rep that force him into scramble mode.
— Through five games has been on the positive side of blowouts and middling competition on the edge.
Originally a starter at San Diego State, Simmons transferred to Ohio State in 2023 and has made 31 career starts at tackle. At Ohio State, he mad 13 at right tackle and five on the left side. The Rams could potentially use him on either end, if they did draft him, although left would make more sense in the immediate than right.
Thorn likes what he sees, but isn’t sure if his eyes are fooling him:
Overall, there’s a question on how much of Simmons’s early season dominance is due to a lack of competition or him being that much better, but there’s no doubt that his size, movement skills, and play strength are on the shortlist for being the best in the nation at left tackle through five games.
