The Colts should have an ‘up close and personal look’ at some of the Senior Bowl’s top prospects with their coaching staff actively participating this year.

The Indianapolis Colts coaching staff will be well-represented at this year’s upcoming Senior Bowl as Kalon Humphries (linebackers/edge for American Team), Brent Jackson (defensive backs for American Team), Matt Raich (defensive coordinator for American Team), Chris Watt (tight ends coach for National Team) are all participating on behalf of the Horseshoe.

Colts longtime general manager Chris Ballard has been no stranger to drafting ‘Senior Bowl standouts’ in the past, including Tanor Bortolini, Kylen Granson, Laiatu Latu, Alec Pierce, Michael Pittman Jr., and Bernhard Raimann among others. Not to mention, former Colts’ All-Pro linebacker Darius ‘Shaq’ Leonard remains one of the biggest gems of his ongoing tenure. Claimed corner Kenny Moore II also previously participated in the Senior Bowl.

It could give the Colts scouting department a much closer and personal level look at some of the event’s talented prospects this year—which could pay off come draft weekend and even priority undrafted rookie free agent signings.

In particular, the Colts could be eyeing the tight end position, as well as improving their defense collectively with potential upgrades at pass rusher, linebacker, and their secondary—especially with new veteran defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo in need of better ‘horses.’

In that regard, some of these Colts coaches are opportunistically placed for Indianapolis.

It’s also a unique opportunity for some of these Colts coaches to coach position groups or be elevated to coaching roles that they currently are not for Indianapolis. If nothing else, it adds a little intrigue for the Colts come Senior Bowl week (February 1st) in Mobile, Alabama.
