Are you going to gamble on the game?

Steve Maltepes, known as “The Philly Godfather,” will impart his gambling wisdom on the Eagles and where the smart money is going on various pro football games each weekend this season. Washington Commanders (12-5) at Philadelphia Eagles (14-3), 3:00 p.m. Sunday

The Line: Eagles minus-6/Total: 47.5

What is the line telling you:

Originally, this line opened up with the Eagles being a 4-point favorite with the combined total set at 48, and with the news that Jalen Hurts was playing, the line popped up 2 points and 2.5 points in the sports betting market, depending on what shop you use. The spread has dropped a half point. The Commanders are on a seven-game winning streak, but if you look at the teams that they beat down the stretch of the regular season, four of the five teams didn’t make the playoffs, and they beat an Eagles team in which Jalen Hurts threw only four passes before he was knocked out of the game. In the playoffs, they beat a Buccaneers team that was only No. 16 in opponent yards per pass attempt, and they beat a Detroit Lions team that had the most banged up pass defense in the postseason. The Eagles, on the other hand, have the No. 1 pass defense in the league. The issue with the Commanders is guard Sam Cosmi being out, and he’s hard to replace. Jayden Daniels will be running for his life from Jalen Carter, and the Commanders have arguably the worst run defense in the NFL. Saquon Barkley, as we all know, is the true MVP of the NFL. He should have a big day.

Bottom line:

The early public money was all over the Commanders. I think they are a little over valued in the market heading into this game. You look at Saquon Barkley’s rushing props and they are set at 138 yards this week, which is the highest a running back has had this season entering a game. I like the Eagles minus 4, 5 and 6 points. I think the Eagles win the game. I think Jayden Daniels comes back down to earth. I also put the Eagles with a 6-point teaser with the Eagles as a pick’em, and the under 53.5. I think the Eagles advance to the Super Bowl.

Prop bets for the game

Jayden Daniels over 54.5 rushing yards (-114)

Jalen Hurts under 33.5 rushing yards (-114)

Dyami Brown over 42.5 receiving yards (-105)

Brian Robinson Jr. under 37.5 rushing yards (-105)

Terry McLaurin anytime TD (+140)

Zach Ertz anytime TD (+300)

(Betting lines are subject to change.)
