The Miami Dolphins have filled their vacant wide receivers coach position.

The Miami Dolphins have hired their new wide receivers coach, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. After letting go of Wes Welker, the team has turned to former Dallas Cowboys wide receivers coach Robert Prince to fill the vacancy. Prince brings with him years of experience on the offensive side of the ball at both the NFL and collegiate levels.

Prince began his coaching career in 1989 at his alma mater, Humboldt State, as a graduate assistant. He moved in 1991 to Montana State, where he was also a graduate assistant. His first full coaching position came as the wide receivers coach for Sacramento State in 1992 before moving in 1994 to Fort Lewis, where he was the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. Four years later, he moved to Portland State, where he took over as the wide receivers coach for a year before moving to the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator roles for two seasons. He then became the Boise State wide receivers coach in 2001, moving up to passing game coordinator in 2003.

His first NFL position came with the Atlanta Falcons in 2004, working as an offensive assistant with the running backs and tight ends. He moved over to the Falcons’ assistant quarterbacks coach in 2006.

In 2007, Prince joined the Jacksonville Jaguars as an assistant wide receivers coach before becoming the Seattle Seahawks wide receivers coach in 2009.

He returned to college football in 2010, spending a year as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Colorado. He then spent three years at Boise State, one as the wide receivers coach and two as the offensive coordinator.

He returned to the NFL in 2014 as the Detroit Lions’ wide receivers coach, staying with the team through the 2020 season. That year, as several personnel of Detroit’s coaching staff, including interim head coach Darrell Bevell, tested positive for COVID-19, Prince served one game as the team’s acting head coach. Bevell is the current passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Dolphins.

Prince moved to the Houston Texans in 2021 as the team’s wide receivers coach before a three-year sting with the Cowboys from 2022 through this past season. The Cowboys allowed head coach Mike McCarthy’s contract to end after the season, leading to Prince’s availability for Miami.

The Dolphins fired Welker after three years as the team’s wide receivers coach. Welker, a former NFL wide receiver, played for Miami from 2004 through 2006. Miami saw their receiving corps regress in 2024, with drops and an inability to get open on routes, which were major issues throughout the season.
