Jerry Jones is the gift that keeps on giving.
The Dallas Cowboys have their Mike McCarthy replacement: Brian Schottenheimer is their new head coach.
Or … maybe he’s no longer going by his first name?
Cowboys are hiring offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach, Jerrry Jones tells ESPN.
“Brian Schottenheimer is known as a career assistant,” Jones said. “He ain’t Brian no more. He is now known as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.” pic.twitter.com/JtGoltP1mC

“The head coach of the Dallas Cowboys Schottenheimer.”
Unlike the Cowboys since the mid-1990s, that really has a ring to it!
So, to recap: Jerry Jones couldn’t come to terms on an extension with McCarthy … and then decided to replace him by promoting their non-play-calling offensive coordinator.
And not just any non-play-calling OC, but one who does not exactly have a great track record.
it is once again time for me to tweet the Brian Schottenheimer career summary https://t.co/VyNusDxOuH pic.twitter.com/SNYAk5CBOB

Lol.
Unsurprisingly, Cowboys fans aren’t very excited by this development.

Brian Schottenheimer is the newest head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
Jerry Jones and the front office have declared that they have a bottom line… their own self-interest.
Winning is not a priority.
A mighty franchise has fallen. https://t.co/ZXujhkqlBR

It’s just not a very exciting hire. Nor a very encouraging process to how the Cowboys arrived at this point.
Tough scene.
This news is obviously relevant to the Eagles since 1) they’ll now go up against Schottenheimer twice next season and 2) the Cowboys won’t be hiring Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
Moore interviewed with Dallas last week and there was some buzz that he was considered to be the favorite to replace McCarthy. But that clearly wasn’t the case.
In addition to speaking with the Cowboys, Moore also interviewed with the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints. The Jags have since hired Liam Coen as their new head coach while the Saints are the only team yet to make their HC hire. Moore is reportedly one of the candidates the Saints want to hold a second interview with, so, he might still be in play for that job. We’ll see.
For now, lol Cowboys.
A+ hire, if you ask me.
