Russell Wilson says he hopes to stay in Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers have to make a quarterback decision this offseason as both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields can be free agents. Do they sign both, move on from both, or choose one over the other?

Russell Wilson, the 36-year-old who started the Steelers’ last 11 games of the 2024 season, wants the Steelers to choose him.

“Obviously, this year was an exciting year in a lot of ways,” Wilson said on the show. “It was tough at the end, obviously. We didn’t get it done, but I’ve got so much more in me, man. I’m excited. My goal is to be with the Pittsburgh Steelers for a long time, hopefully finish my career there, God willing. I’m just trusting God and the process.”

Speaking on the ‘Pat McAfee Show’, Wilson made it seem as though the Steelers might be willing to bring him back.

“Yes, we have been starting to talk a little bit,” Wilson said. “Obviously, we’ve had our meetings and everything else. We’re kinda just getting into it. I think that it’s an exciting time, obviously, to be a Pittsburgh Steeler and the opportunity of what we can do. I think at the same time, Omar (Khan) and coach (Mike) Tomlin, I really love those guys, and who they are, and the team that we can put together.”

If the Steelers bring Wilson back, perhaps that means 26-year-old Justin Fields could be an option for the Giants. Fields went 4-2 in six starts for the Steelers last season, completing 65.8% of his passes.

The Steelers, even if they are talking to Wilson currently, appear to be keeping their options open.

“We are certainly open to considering (Wilson and Fields), but there’s a lot of work ahead of us,” Tomlin said at his season-ending news conference a week ago. “The major work, obviously, starts first and foremost with just understanding what our options are, what the field looks like in terms of free agency, what the draft pool looks like.”

The Pittsburgh situation is, of course, one the Giants will be paying attention to as free agency approaches
