The coach you would steal for the Miami Dolphins

Last week, I asked: Which head coach or coordinators/assistants would you steal from other college or NFL teams for our Miami Dolphins and why? If you prefer to stick with McDaniel, tell us why you like him over any other NFL coach or college coach.

Below are some of your answers and thoughts on the question of the day-

PA phinphan has their top pick as a former Dolphins assistant and interim head coach.

1a Dan Campbell

1b John Harbaugh

2 Andy Reid

3 Sean McVay/DeMeco Ryans

I never hear players bad-mouthing any of these coaches. They all seem like no nonsense guys with a fiery side. Also, they appear to get the most out of their players even the “problem” ones. And if a player was too much of a problem, they gone. I feel Anthony Weaver is of the same mold. How about he takes the reigns of the team and MCD is just a play developer with someone else calling his plays?

Dolphster says “of course” to PA phinphan’s top pick.

Campbell of course. And to think, they never would have had to steal him in the first place since they already had him. It was obvious back then the he was a leader of men. That is only half the battle for being a great coach, but it is a half that we certainly don’t have with Pee Wee at the helm, he couldn’t lead his finger up his nose.

EzDz73 wants some guys that have won the Super Bowl and a few others, although I think the Flores thing might be complicated as long as Tua is under contract with the team.

I’m take Reid, Campbell, Tomlin, D Ryans, McVay, O’Connell, Lafleur and I would even take Flores back with an OC. Those are the main guys jumping out of my head right now.

dedstrk316 rolled with three solid choices.

I’d pick Reid or Campbell for sure but since that’s the consensus I’ll throw in Ryans from Houston as an option. I’ve been pretty impressed by him.

technole likes that Payton has done well with any QB, except, of course, that guy who ate up a large portion of their cap space in dead money.

Sean Payton and Andy Reid both always done well with any QB under them.

phinette wants a guy who would bring in competition for Tua.

Reid and Campbell are the logical choic s for all the reasons articulated in the comments section. A dark horse for me is Sean McVay. His teams are tough and disciplined. All of them would bring in competition for Tua.

SlayerNation1 wants someone to come in and toughen up the team.

Dan Campbell, the current version. Wuss Culture remains the biggest problem in MIA. Campbell acts like a Defensive guy, but isn’t, and still has the intelligence (more than His meathead persona) to have a sharp play caller/designer.

He does have the benefit of a professional GM.

There was a time 10 years ago, Tomlin would have been the choice, He has become hard to watch. He would still make a good DC, just can’t have anything to do with Offense.

Reid maybe choice 1b. A quiet culture builder with more of an avuncular personality, but never afraid to move on from a player a year early instead of a year late.

D.A. wants to bring back an old interim with Campbell, like many of you.

We had Dan Campbell. Friggin idiots running the show refused to hire him even though we were winning games when he filled in. BTW where is that bug eyed Gase these days? I wouldn’t let him coach a peewee team.

My steal would be Sean Peyton. Or Denzel Washington Remember the Titans. lol

Thomas23059 figures if it works in KC, it will work in South Florida.

Andy Reid. Who else would it be? Not only is he a great coach, but he can pretty much get any coordinators and GM that he wants to come in and build him the team he wants. And, as a bonus, if he were in Miami we would never have to see that frozen mustache again.

finfanfromsiam wants to go old school.

Andy Reid or Campbell are 1 and 2. After them I would entertain an experienced coach that has had a modicum of prior success. Someone with old school principles and some new concepts.

heatforlife says ditto!

dan campbells the best coach going right now.

tvegas897 is not pleased with yet another player’s wife bashing the team.

Here’s the problem with our guy. Campbell would never put up with this nonsense

phinsatx isn’t sure.

I don’t know. It seems like any coach is beholden to luck. You can out-coach some things, but it can boil down to if you have the right QB, OL or whatever. You can build it over time, but still fall out of favor in the down eras (like Tomlin now or Reid when he left the Eagles). Most coaches either have success early, have to survive the fire or both to remain long term.

Miami7 wants a Harbaugh.

THE most obvious answer would be Andy Reid and any band of merry men he chooses to bring along, but actually I think the coach I would prefer would be John Harbaugh. Just like the way he goes about his business and they are like the old Dolphins teams I remember from 30 years ago & back (always competitive, in the hunt, play hard, don’t HEAR much nonsense surrounding his teams).

And wouldn’t want ANY part of his – camera 1st – brother (though ya can’t debate his success either).

That was a solid list, but the favorites were clearly Reid and Campbell. Hopefully, 2025 goes better than 2024, and we won’t need a new head coach sooner than later. Thank you, as always, to each of you who took the time to answer our question of the day.
