Roster news.
The Philadelphia Eagles announced some roster news on Tuesday evening. Here’s an overview:
- TE Cameron Latu was signed to a reserve/future contract.
- WR Elijah Cooks was released from the practice squad.
Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.
CAMERON LATU
By signing to a reserve/future contract, Latu is not eligible to play for the Eagles in this current season. The team is signing him to have on their 2025 offseason roster.
Latu, 24, played college football at Alabama (where he overlapped with Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith, and some more current Eagles players) before being selected by the San Francisco 49ers with a third-round pick (No. 101 overall) in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Latu suffered a season-ending knee injury in the 2023 preseason finale that robbed him of his rookie season. The 49ers then cut him prior to Week 1 of the 2024 regular season. Latu then spent most of the season on the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad.
Now in Philly, Latu will compete for a depth tight end job on the 2025 team.
Latu is just one of several former 49ers draft picks to sign with the Eagles. The others are currently practice squad members: Tyrion Davis-Price, Tariq Castro-Fields, and Danny Gray.
Pre-draft scouting report via NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein:
High-hipped pass-catching tight end with run blocking fortitude to mold. Latu’s lean legs and angular frame aren’t made for drive blocking or neutralizing bigger players, but he does a nice job of sustaining move blocks in space. He changes route speed to open throwing windows over the first two levels. There are some issues with focus drops at times, but he plucks throws with good hand extension when possible. Latu could have roster appeal as an F tight end with an average ceiling.

Athletic testing information:
Cameron Latu is a TE prospect in the 2023 draft class. He scored a 6.15 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 411 out of 1064 TE from 1987 to 2023. https://t.co/e6CBGbdqWH #RAS pic.twitter.com/dbyo6j0k7W

I advocate *not* drafting TE too early when you have a class with so many prospects who hit the marks for speed and elusiveness I’m looking for.
Only drafted TEs who didn’t hit the marks so far are Schoonmaker (low avoided tackles) and Latu pic.twitter.com/TvHFPHuHDq

ELIJAH COOKS
The Eagles only signed Cooks to their practice squad last week. And prior to last week, they had only re-signed Joe Ngata to their practice squad for a week. So, a little bit of a revolving practice squad wide receiver thing going on.
We’ll see if the Eagles fill their practice squad opening with a new signing on Wednesday.
