New York Giants news for Saturday

Good morning New York Giants fans!

Other Giant observations

Dan Campbell gives the Giants a lot of credit for helping the Lions find themselves this season | AZSports.com

That might seem like a forgotten thing now for fans of both teams, but to Dan Campbell, that was a really important few days that the Lions needed and has helped them be the team they are today.

“I felt like the biggest adjustment for us was training camp out at New York, you know, that was the first real taste of, you know, kind of the perception. And, you know, I thought the Giants man, they practiced hard, they brought it, you know, it was a lot of energy, a lot of juice. And I thought that was good for us to get that and it’s like now, you know what it’s going to be like all season, and we’ve handled it. I mean, we handle it well. We know we’re going to get everybody’s best shot.”

Who will be the Giants’ QB1 in 2025? Sam Darnold? Justin Fields? Shedeur Sanders? | The Athletic

The goal for the Giants should be to find this year’s version of Mayfield and Darnold rather than paying market price for Darnold off a season that may not be replicable if he returns to New York. Justin Fields has the most similarities to Mayfield and Darnold as a talented prospect who didn’t thrive at his first stop. It’s easy to pick apart the flaws in Fields’ game, just as one could have done with Mayfield and Darnold before their breakthroughs. But Fields is a former top pick with physical tools who has experienced some success as a dual-threat quarterback despite limitations as a passer. There could be untapped potential in Fields waiting to be realized in the right situation.

Giants Sign QB Russell Wilson to a Multi-Year Deal.

Aaron Rodgers? Sam Darnold? Russell Wilson? Identifying starters for 11 QB-needy teams | FOX Sports

The Giants really blew it by beating the Colts in Week 17, which cost them the No. 1 pick in the draft and the young quarterback of their choice. Instead, they slipped to No. 3, which might be too low to get one of the top two quarterbacks and too high to pick a third option.

Russell Wilson, though, has long had an interest in playing in New York and even paid a visit to the Giants at the start of free agency last March. While he’s not a long-term option, and certainly hasn’t played like he’s in his prime anymore, the 36-year-old could bring some consistency to the position for the Giants — something they haven’t had in a while.

Will Giants’ next secondary coach be able to prevent Deonte Banks from playing like a bust? | NJ.com

There are many reasons why Giants general manager Joe Schoen looks like a failure. And Deonte Banks’ play over the past two seasons is right near the top of the list.

Giants may target Marquand Manuel for coaching role in secondary | USAToday.com

After retirement following the 2009 season, Manuel took a year off and then entered the coaching ranks as an intern at Florida. He joined the Seattle Seahawks in 2012 and held multiple assistant roles before moving on to the Atlanta Falcons in 2015.

Manuel initially served as the secondary coach in Atlanta before being promoted to defensive coordinator under Dan Quinn in 2017. Manuel also spent the 2020 season as the defensive backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles and served as safeties coach for the New York Jets over the past four seasons.

Giants Now: Michael Strahan voted to College Football Hall of Fame | Giants.com

Earlier this week, the College Football Hall of Fame announced its Class of 2025. Among the players set to be inducted later this year is Giants legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end Michael Strahan.

Strahan put together a legendary career at Texas Southern prior to landing with the Giants. He graduated with both the program’s single-season sack record (19 in 1992) along with the all-time sack record (41.5). He also earned numerous accolades, including first-team All-American, Division I-AA Defensive Player of the Year, 1992 Black College Defensive Player of the Year, two-time SWAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-SWAC member.
