One for the books.
While the Cincinnati Bengals failed to make the NFL Playoffs, you certainly can’t place the blame on their quarterback. Joe Burrow turned in the best season of his five-year career in 2024, but it wasn’t enough to overcome defensive woes and special teams miscues.
In 2024, Burrow threw for 4,918 yards, 43 touchdowns, and just nine interceptions. Numbers that, if Cincinnati made the playoffs, could have very well made Burrow the MVP of the league.
His 93.9 Pro Football Focus grade ranked third among all NFL QBs.
#NFL QB Reads 2024
Joe Burrow led the league in 2024, progressing through his reads on 93.6% of pass plays. Brock Purdy ranked 7th at 91%, reflecting Shanahan’s confidence in his ability to read the field.

On December 15th, Burrow set the franchise record for touchdown passes in a season with 36, breaking his own record of 35 he set in 2022. The record-breaking throw came in a win against the Tennessee Titans.
In a December 28th win against the Denver Broncos, Burrow’s game-winning touchdown throw to Tee Higgins made Burrow the first player in NFL history to throw for at least 250 yards and three touchdowns in seven consecutive games. Burrow went on a tear to end the season.
Burrow also broke the record for single-season passing yards by a Bengals quarterback. With 4.918 yards, he broke the previous record of 4,611 he set in the 2021 season, where he led the Bengals to the Super Bowl.
A lot went wrong for the Bengals this season, but not much of that came from their franchise quarterback. He also did all of that coming off of offseason wrist surgery for an injury we have never seen a quarterback suffer.
Now, Burrow and the Bengals will turn their eyes to the 2025 campaign, and hopefully, this time next year, you’re reading about the Bengals resting their starters with a playoff spot already secured.
