Wide receiver had lost his role with the Giants’ offense
Isaiah Hodgins, who starred when he came to the New York Giants during the second half of the 2022 season but saw his role diminish the last two seasons, has left the Giants for the San Francisco 49ers.
Hodgins on Tuesday signed a reserve/futures contract with San Francisco.
Hodgins was claimed by the wide receiver needy Giants in the middle of the 2022 season. He caught 33 passes for 351 yards and four touchdowns in eight games with the Giants to help them reach the playoffs.
In the Giants’ 31-24 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card round of the NFC playoffs, Hodgins had a brilliant game. He caught eight passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.
In 2023, Hodgins’ role decreased and he caught only 21 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns over a full 17-game season.
In 2024, his role decreased further. He spent the season on the practice squad. The Giants elevated Hodgins for three games, and he caught just two passes.
Hodgins will hope for a bigger opportunity in San Francisco.
