The former Wisconsin Badger spent his rookie season on Miami’s practice squad.
With 32 players projected to hit free agency this offseason, the Miami Dolphins must get creative when developing next season’s roster. The front office will likely create salary cap space, but starting with just $316,804 isn’t ideal.
Hoping to develop home-grown talent, the Dolphins are signing cornerback Jason Maitre to a two-year contract extension, according to Aaron Wilson, NFL reporter for KPRC 2 in Houston.

Maitre signed with the Dolphins in May as an undrafted free agent and spent his rookie campaign on the practice squad. While he didn’t appear in the regular season, the 24-year-old played in all three preseason games.
Maitre spent five seasons at Boston College, where he recorded 133 tackles and three interceptions, before adding 33 tackles and three pass breakups with the Wisconsin Badgers in 2023.
Looking ahead to 2025, Maitre may have a chance to carve out a role on special teams — or even at nickel cornerback — with Siran Neal and Kader Kohou becoming free agents when the new year begins in March.
