People, of course, have opinions
The New York Giants ownership has elected to retain general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll. That news was announced Monday morning amidst reports of vacancies opening around the NFL.
Giants president John Mara expressed confidence in the duo’s ability to right the ship and execute the team’s long-awaited, and much needed, rebuild.

However, their confident has been met with more than some skepticism from around the media landscape.
Not sure when we’ll hear from John Mara, but he has a lot of questions to answer. And not just “Why?”
Biggest one to me: How long are you committed to Joe Schoen/Brian Daboll? Because if they draft a QB, it has to be more than one year. pic.twitter.com/vAWKWlZRPb

The biggest concern I would have with the #Giants in sticking with Brian Daboll & Joe Schoen: The two realize it’s do-or-die in 2025 and act accordingly this offseason.
– Bad contracts handed out to B-tier players in free agency
– Overpay to move up and draft a QB unworthy of…— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) January 6, 2025
Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll should consider themselves very lucky that they work for a Giants owner who always looks for reasons to keep people instead of reasons to fire them. They put a pathetic product on the field and did nothing to deserve this break and got it anyway. https://t.co/rMXgHeViG6

The Giants’ record has gotten worse each of the last two years, falling from 9-7-1 to 6-11, to 3-14 this year. Mara, however, believes that the Giants have more talent than their record would indicate and that the two need the opportunity to build around their quarterback.

Fans, on the other hand, are largely out of patience and believe that Mara is spitting in the fan base’s eye with the decision to retain Daboll and Schoen.

There’s quite literally zero reason to be confident that this regime will succeed. What an absolute joke and slap in the face to the fans. pic.twitter.com/LCxjJfU9HG

Fans around the rest of the NFC East, meanwhile, don’t seem broken up about the news.
The Giants have gotten worse since their fluke playoff run in 2022, but sure, retain those guys! pic.twitter.com/tqnHjiLH0k
