Checking in on several players who finished the season with injuries
Injury updates are always part of the day after a team concludes its NFL season. Who is headed for surgery? Who has had surgery? who has an idea what their recovery timeline for the upcoming season will be? Let’s check in on what we learned about a variety of injured New York Giants players on Monday as they prepared to head home for the offseason.
Jon Runyan’s undisclosed shoulder injury
Starting left guard Jon Runyan Jr. finished the season on injured reserve due to an ankle injury. Runyan revealed on Monday that he played the entire season with a separated shoulder, and that he hopes to avoid undergoing surgery to repair it.
Runyan also had tight-rope surgery for a high-ankle sprain and surgery to repair a torn deltoid ligament on his inner ankle.
Other injury notes
- Edge defender Brian Burns said he played through Achilles tendinitis and a groin injury this season. He said he won’t need any offseason surgery.
- Edge defender Azeez Ojulari did not need surgery for a torn toe ligament. He heads to free agency healthy.
- Safety Tyler Nubin had tight rope surgery to repair the late-season high ankle sprain that landed him on injured reserve.
