Tyre Phillips elevated from practice squad, could start at right tackle
The New York Giants added speedy running back Dante ‘Turbo’ Miller to their 53-man roster ahead of Sunday’s season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles. Miller takes the spot of defensive tackle Armon Watts, who went on IR after suffering a torn ACL last Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.
Miller spent the entire season on the Giants’ practice squad after signing with the team as a rookie free agent during the offseason.
Miller was elevated from the practice squad for two games earlier this season, but has yet to touch the ball. Per Dan Duggan on Saturday evening, that is also unlikely on Sunday.
Don’t expect to see Turbo tomorrow. His signing is a reward for a young player they like who has been on the practice squad all season. Also gives a jump on locking up players for the future, as he signed through next season.
Miller was elevated for two games earlier this season, so this gives him three games on the active roster. That means he gets a credited season, which is important for benefits.
The Giants also elevated two players from the practice squad, edge defender Boogie Basham and offensive tackle Tyre Phillips. With right tackle Evan neal out of the lineup with rib and hip injuries, Phillips could start Sunday afternoon.
