Daboll deflects on whether or not he will be back next season
What does the future hold for New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll after a 3-14 season? Daboll deflected that question in a variety of ways following Sunday’s season-ending 20-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Has Daboll gotten an indication if he will be back for a fourth season?
“We’ll (Daboll and ownership) talk. We talk all the time. We’ll sit down and have a conversation.”
Has he previously discussed his status with co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch?
“I speak to Steve and John all the time. After the game we’ll sit down tonight, tomorrow and we’ll have a conversation.”
Has he gotten assurances he will be back?
“We’ll have these talks here after the game, tomorrow, I’m sure.”
Why does he believe he should return as head coach?
“We’re 3 and 14 but I believe in the people, believe in our process. Again, we’ll have those conversations.
“I’ve got a good relationship with the Mara family, the Tisch family, Joe (Schoen). We’ll go through that process.”
Has Schoen given Daboll any indication of his future?
“Those conversations will be private, but there’s good communication.”
Would he prefer a quick decision from ownership?
“We’ll sit down like we normally do, have our conversations and go from there.”
Is he concerned about his future with the Giants?
“No. Look, you do the best job you can. Again, I’d say we have good conversations. Three wins is not good enough, so a lot of work to be done.”
Reporting from NFL insiders on Sunday morning indicated an expectation that Daboll, despite going 9-25 over the last two seasons, would return. The answer should come in the next day or so.
