Giants’ Rooting Guide for 2025 NFL Draft Implications of Week 18 | Bleacher Report

Week 18 of the 2024 NFL season could wind up being a critical turning point in the franchise’s history. The Giants will be rooting for the Browns to take down the Ravens, the Titans to rise up against the Texans and the Patriots to beat the Bills.

Giants 2025: Is Joe Schoen the right GM to lead New York into the future? | The Athletic

Schoen’s assessment is more layered. As he said when he was hired, he was aiming to “compete for today and build for tomorrow.” The competing today aspect has fallen flat, but he could get a reprieve if ownership believes in his plan for the future.

To get a holistic view of Schoen’s tenure and how the Giants got to this bleak spot in his third season, The Athletic’s Dan Duggan reviewed the major roster-building decisions from each of his three years. This exercise should give a fuller perspective on what Schoen inherited, what he’s added, what he’s subtracted and where things stand as he wraps up his third year on the job.

NY Giants: Is season finale a farewell for Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen? | The Record

The last two seasons have not gone as planned for the Giants, and the uncertain futures for Daboll and Schoen are squarely on center stage now for ownership. It’s far more complicated than those screaming to “clean house” are willing to admit, even if that is not a popular opinion from talking heads, loyal customers who pay a pretty penny for what at best has been an underwhelming product or others just trying to get attention.

A rebuild like the one the Giants needed after the 2021 season was bound to be messy. The fact that it didn’t start out that way two years ago when Daboll and Schoen got here has been overshadowed greatly by what has transpired since. Whether that’s fair or unfair doesn’t seem to matter to many observers, and truth be told, what matters is through what lens co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch view the current circumstances.

Steve Serby—A letter to John Mara: Don’t let Joe Schoen, Brian Daboll calls become latest Giants mistakes | New York Post

Dear John:

Happy New Year, first of all. Mercifully, it won’t be long before everyone starts talking about the franchise’s 101-year anniversary.

I know how painful the past decade or so has been for you. This is the family business, and you have presided over a failing business. Those four Lombardi Trophies in the glass case that you walk past every day inside 1925 Giants Drive must seem to you like a haunting reminder of the good old days of Parcells and LT and Simms and Carson and Coughlin and Eli and Strahan.

Giatns Head Coach Brian Daboll’s Toughest Opponent Lies Beyond Week 18 | SI.com

The biggest one is his taking over the playcalling. Hailed as an offensive guru for his work in Buffalo, Daboll has not come close to replicating that success in his first season as Giants playcaller/head coach, with the offense faring worse in several major statistical categories, most notably scoring.

Another glaring issue for Daboll is the quarterback play. In his first season, Daboll, again hailed as a quarterback whisperer for his work with Josh Allen in Buffalo, managed to get former starter Daniel Jones to look like a competent quarterback for the first time since his rookie season.

5. Brian Daboll, New York Giants. Brian Daboll is the coach everyone should want to guide the Giants forward with a new quarterback in place, but his resume in the last two seasons has been tough to defend. Winning just one of nine home games this year and producing two straight 11-loss seasons is hard to overcome. Giants co-owner John Mara surely wants stability, but a fresh start at head coach to go with a top rookie quarterback might be the safest pathway to it.

WR Darius Slayton named the 2024 Good Guy of the Year by Giants media

Dabs’ Digest: Week 18 conversation with Coach Brian Daboll | Giants.com

Q: Speaking of rookies…You have started eight this year, which is tied for second most in the league. And started six draft choices, which is also tied for second. They have gotten much valuable experience in one year. What does that mean for the roster?

Daboll: “That’s what you want. You’re always going to go through growing pains with young players, rookies, first-year players. The more they play, the more experience they get, that only helps. As long as they have the right attitude, which our guys do, and the right makeup, that’s definitely a good group to build with.”

Is Shedeur Sanders ‘perfect’ for Giants? Inside ‘frightening’ QB pick who would ‘get people talking’ | NJ.com

As Shedeur Sanders tossed a football in practice last week, he decided to offer a teaser sound bite he surely knew would get attention.

Sanders — Colorado’s brash, polarizing quarterback — saw a camera pointing at him. And he loves attention, embracing the spotlight so gleefully that he has made a habit of flashing his $70,000 wristwatch in opponents’ faces.

NFL Week 18 and coaching carousel latest buzz, predictions | ESPN.com

Nick Sirianni has quieted the preseason noise with the Eagles’ 13-3 season. Would a first-round playoff exit reignite talks about his job status? It’s hard to say, but it’s a question some people around the league are wondering. Sirianni’s 47-20 record is impressive. Yet his standing was a talking point coming off a tumultuous 2023 campaign, and he doesn’t have a contract extension in place. The sideline and on-field spats are sort of hard to ignore. Any firing here would be a sizable upset, but if we’re talking surprises, this would be one to list because his status was a regular debate four months ago.

Giants vs. Eagles: Latest Updates | PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Head Coach Nick Sirianni said on Friday that Jalen Hurts is “progressing through the (concussion) protocol.” With Hurts (concussion/left finger) and Kenny Pickett (ribs) on the injury report, that could mean Tanner McKee and Ian Book are the two quarterbacks available for Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Giants.
