Your Monday Night Football open thread
The San Francisco 49ers will host the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football.
The schedule makers were probably envisioning a classic game when they scheduled a rematch of the 2023-2024 NFC Championship for the penultimate Monday Night Football. And while the Lions have clinched their playoff berth with a 13-2 record, the 6-9 49ers have been eliminated from playoff contention.
In an interesting wrinkle, the Lions are playing for the 1st seed in the playoffs. If they lose, it opens the door for the Minnesota Vikings to seize the top seed and first round bye week.
Even so, the Lions are only 3.5-point favorites on the road per FanDuel Sportsbook. Can the 49ers surprise and play spoiler? Or will the Lions do what they’ve done so often and ride their offense to another win?

Both of these teams have been battered by injuries, but the Lions have been able to sustain a dominant offense to overcome their defensive injuries. The 49ers have had a spate of injuries on both sides of the ball, and losing players like Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, Trent Williams, LB Dre Greenlaw, and Javon Hargrave is tough to overcome.
I’m picking the Lions to win, and while it might not be a blowout, it won’t be as close as the 3.5 point spread.
