The Los Angeles Rams may not have much to play for in Week 18, but that is not guaranteed just yet

The Los Angeles Rams have not clinched a playoff spot after their 10th win of the season, but after their latest victory over the Arizona Cardinals they have the best chance that they’ve had all year. But because the Rams have not yet clinched a spot, Sean McVay could not definitively answer whether or not his starters play in what could be a meaningless Week 18 for the Rams.

“You know I’ve got look at a lot of different things so we’ll see.” McVay stated as he pondered what the future of his team and their preparation will look like.

Will the head coach be watching any of the games tomorrow that could impact whether or not L.A. clinches the NFC West?

“No, I’m just gonna put my head in the sand.” McVay dryly said before laughing and stating the obvious: “Yes.”

And so McVay, like so many other NFL fans around the world will be tuned into the outcomes of Sunday’s games. There is still plenty that needs to unfold before the Rams are officially playoff bound.

After the Cincinnati Bengals Saturday afternoon victory, L.A. now needs a combination of teams (the Minnesota Vikings, the Buffalo Bills, the San Francisco 49ers, the Washington Commanders and or the Cleveland Browns) to combine for 2.5 wins or more.

If that happens, then the Rams will be headed to play past Week 18 regardless of whether they beat the Seattle Seahawks next Sunday or not.

Sean McVay referred to his team as “a mentally tough team” after his Rams found a way to win their fifth consecutive game. “A mentally tough team” does seem like a fair assessment for a squad who was once 1-4, and is now knocking on the playoff’s door.

Of course, nothing is certain until it’s guaranteed, but L.A. has come a long way from their early season losses as they continue to stack wins and make a valid case to enter the postseason. There’s plenty of time to talk about what the group needs to work on, but there should be some time for the organization to take a step back and be proud of where they are at in December.
