Other Giant observations
Giants players insist they’re still playing for something | ESPN.com
Somehow, it still doesn’t have them all hoping the season would mercifully end right now. Depending on the individual, the motivation varies this late in a lost season.
“At this point in time it should be the ‘why,’” right tackle Evan Neal said. “Everybody has their own individual ‘why’ and why they play this game in the first place. And it’s tough to have a losing season like this. But you have to still go out there and play. You got to figure out a reason to play every week.”
Malik Nabers wants to play for the fans
“Thanks to those fans that come out and support us this year. But we’ve got to be better. But yes, next year, the fire is burning up inside me to give those fans a show anytime I’m out there on the field.”

Dabs’ Digest: Week 17 conversation with Coach Brian Daboll | Giants.com
Q: Guard Jake Kubas started and played the entire game last week, his first extensive action. How did he do?
Daboll: “This is a young player, rookie, that didn’t play a lot, obviously. Got called into duty, was ready when his number was called. He’s got DNA that we covet in terms of being smart, being tough as an offensive lineman, good communicator. He’s just taken in all that is presented in the meeting room. He sits right next to John Michael, GVR, those guys (in the meetings). I was encouraged with how he played.”
This Change Made by Giants DC Shane Bowen Has Helped Team’s Run Defense | SI.com
According to Sports Info Solutions (SIS), when the Giants had Lawrence in the lineup, their most frequently used defensive formation against the run was a 2-4-5, which they ran 52% of the time. That was followed by a 3-3-5, which they deployed 46% of the time.
From Weeks 14-16, the Giants ran a 4-3-4 on 65% of their running plays, their most frequently used personnel grouping against the run. Meanwhile, their 2-4-5 alignment was used on just four out of 83 total running plays against them in that three-week span.
Brian Burns is in elite company
Brian Burns is having a strong first season with the Giants. He’s fifth in pass rush win rate (21.8%). Only players ahead of him: Danielle Hunter, Micah Parsons, Trey Hendrickson and Myles Garrett. Elite company.

NY Giants draft: How to watch Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward in their bowl games | The Record
The Giants (2-13), who have lost 10 consecutive games, are currently in possession of the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Widespread speculation has them selecting one of two quarterbacks to take over the franchise next season − Shedeur Sanders of Colorado or Cam Ward of Miami.
Both high-profile quarterbacks will be in action on Saturday for the final time before the NFL Draft as Ward and No. 13 Miami face No. 18 Iowa State in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, and Sanders and No. 23 Colorado take on No. 17 BYU in the Alamo Bowl.
Giants 2025: A rookie QB needs a stable ecosystem to thrive. Can NY provide one? | The Athletic
The Giants are on track to land the No. 1 pick in next year’s draft. That will allow them to choose between Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward, who are widely viewed as the top two quarterback prospects in the 2025 class. So here’s a closer look at the Giants’ ecosystem Sanders or Ward will walk into.

Joe Schoen’s and Brian Daboll’s Giants fates must be the same — don’t split the baby | New York Post
John Mara has tried splitting the Big Blue Baby before, and it would be a mistake to do it again now.
You either keep Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll, or you clean house.
The outraged Fire Everyone crowd has been growing with every passing indignity and every plane passing over MetLife Stadium during what feels more like a 46th anniversary celebration of The Fumble than the 100th anniversary of the late Wellington Mara’s storied franchise.
Ideal NFL Team-Coach Pairings Amid Latest Coaching Cycle Rumors | Bleacher Report
New York Giants: Joe Brady. More importantly, the Giants will conduct a new quarterback search in the offseason, which could begin with the No. 1 overall pick. If New York uses that selection on a prospect such as Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward, it will want a coach to help develop a signal-caller.
Brady helped develop Joe Burrow as LSU’s passing game coordinator in 2019. In Buffalo, he’s created a championship-caliber offense while helping transform Josh Allen into an MVP front-runner. Hiring Brady would mean replacing one former Bills coordinator with another, but it would be logical if New York decides to fire Daboll.
This week’s opponent
Colts QB Anthony Richardson (back/foot) not ruled out vs. Giants despite missing week of practice | NFL.com
Anthony Richardson did not participate in practice during the week. Coach Shane Steichen added Richardson’s back issue is the more troublesome of the two at this point but declined to rule out Richardson, who is dealing with back and foot ailments, telling reporters Friday, “We’ll see how the next 48 hours go.”
Joe Flacco ready if Anthony Richardson can’t start for Colts vs. Giants: ‘We’re just gonna see how these next couple days play out’ | Colts.com
With Richardson not practicing, that meant Flacco took those mid-week reps – and he did so understanding he has to be ready to start, even if he doesn’t ultimately take a snap against the Giants.
“I think we’re just gonna see how these next couple days play out,” Flacco said. “For me, at least, you’re able to go out there and get some practice reps that make you feel a little more comfortable going into gameday.”
Should Anthony Richardson be shut down if Colts are eliminated Saturday? | Stampede Blue
As the Indianapolis Colts prepare for their second trip to MetLife Stadium this season, the main attractions may be unavailable to play. With the fate of the Colts (7-8) season dependent on an improbable Chargers (9-6) loss in Foxborough on Saturday, there may be little reason to risk the health of the franchise signal caller against the dregs of the NFL.
