Brian Daboll tries to explain, and doesn’t offer a whole lot
Early in Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, television cameras showed New York Giants assistant general manager on the sideline having a conversation with backup quarterbacks Tommy DeVito and Tim Boyle.
That is, honestly, an unusual thing. High-ranking front office members like the GM or assistant GM are normally in a booth somewhere. At MetLife Stadium, booths for ownership and front office members are on the pressbox level. So, we see them coming and going.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll on Monday tried to explain Brown’s presence on the sideline.
“It’s not because of strategy,” Daboll said. “If we’re on the road game and the front office doesn’t have a box, then they come down on the sideline, which has happened, I’d say, a number of times.
“They go down and watch the game from the sideline instead of up in the box. That’s what they’re doing, watching the game.”
Are you buying what Daboll is selling here? I have never heard of a modern NFL stadium that can’t accommodate seating executives from an opposing team in some type of private booth.
I know I’m not buying this explanation. My $.02 is there can’t be anything good for Daboll about management being front and center on the sideline during a game.
Interesting to see Assistant GM Brandon Brown on the #Giants sideline today. Don’t remember seeing him or Schoen down on the sideline during the game at any point in the last 3 years.
