Week 16 updates.
The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced one roster move ahead of their Week 16 road game against the Washington Commanders:
- FB Khari Blasingame was temporarily elevated from the practice squad.
Note: teams can temporarily promote practice squad players up to three times each in the regular season and an unlimited number of times in the postseason.
KHARI BLASINGAME
The Eagles temporarily elevated Blasingame for the third week in a row. He’s no longer eligible to be elevated until the playoffs begin. The Eagles will have to sign the veteran fullback to the roster if they want him to play in the final two weeks. The guess here is they’ll just keep him on the practice squad and break him back out for the postseason.
Blasingame has played sparingly so far. His snap counts from the last two games:
- Week 14 — 1 offensive snap, 15 special teams snaps
- Week 15 — 0 offensive snaps, 15 special teams snaps
The Eagles figure to run the ball often against a Commanders defense that’s been vulnerable in that regard. Washington’s tied for allowing the fourth-most yards per rush attempt. And so having an occasional lead blocker for Saquon Barkley seems like a good idea.
Then again, the Eagles didn’t use a fullback in their win against the Commanders earlier this season. Ben VanSumeren logged zero offensive snaps in that game.
Perhaps Blasingame will be limited to special teams duty once again. We’ll see.
AN EYE ON THE COMMANDERS’ MOVES
The Commanders temporarily elevated one player from their practice squad: defensive tackle Carl Davis.
They notably did NOT elevate one of their two practice squad tight ends (Tyree Jackson, Cole Turner), so, that much could be a sign Zach Ertz is tracking to play. Ertz was ruled questionable on Friday’s injury report with a “concussion/shoulder” designation.
