Will the Giants get the first pick, or are there too many moving parts?

The New York Giants season will finally, mercifully, be over after just three more games.

Despite the popular sentiment that the Giants’ season ended with Thanksgiving, their season isn’t over just yet. The Giants’ players are still playing for pride, while the coaching staff is making their case for continued employment. The Giants are also jockeying for position in the 2025 NFL Draft and hoping to keep their options open.

The elephant in the room is, of course, the quarterback position. We’ll have plenty of time to over-analyze the quarterbacks in the draft as well as free agents, so it doesn’t make sense to get into that here.

Suffice to say, having as much draft capital as possible to go with their anticipated $60 million in cap space would be the preferred scenario.

So with that in mind, we asked the Big Blue View community if you believe that the Giants will get the first overall pick in the upcoming draft.

Somewhat surprisingly, less than a third of fans think the Giants will have the first overall pick.

In our previous survey, most fans think the Giants will lose out and finish the season with a 2-15 record. So why do so few think the Giants will get the first overall pick?

The fact that the Las Vegas Raiders are ahead of the Giants and just as bad complicates matters. It’s possible that both teams lose out, and if so, the Giants would likely lose the strength of schedule tie breaker.

It’s also very possible that the Giants win this week against the Atlanta Falcons, next week against the Indianapolis Colts, or even both games. If so, the Giants would finish 4-13 and potentially drafting at the bottom of the top 10. The NFL tries for parity among their teams, but bad play and bad injury luck league-wide has led to about twice as many bad teams as usual.

There are a lot of moving parts in play. So while the Giants may have the best chance to finish with the first pick, they need help from the rest of the league.

Interestingly, there’s been a massive jump in fan confidence over Week 15.

If I had to guess, the jump in confidence is due to fans buying into the potential value of a high pick when it comes to their long-awaited rebuild.

Whether the Giants use a high pick on a quarterback, draft a lineman or skill position player, or trade down for more picks, having a high pick is valuable.

But even so, this jump in confidence is pretty incredible. Last week, fan confidence was at 26, marking a near doubling in confidence despite the Giants’ 35-14 loss to the Ravens.
