Five Biggest Mistakes Giants Made in Building Their Roster | SI.com
The Joe Schoen-Brian Daboll regime has committed a handful of mistakes that have affected the roster and possibly their future with the New York Giants organization. The five moves were The handling of the quarterback situation, the Saquon Barkley divorce, Daboll taking over the playcalling, the lack of depth in key positions and the hiring of defensive coordinator Shane Bowen.

NFL Coaching Matchmaker: One perfect fit for every team in need of a new coach | FOX Sports
New York Giants. The perfect match: Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores
Brian Daboll wasn’t a completely unanimous choice inside the Giants organization when general manager Joe Schoen hired him in 2022. There was a lot of internal support for Brian Flores, who was the runner-up. The Giants loved his coaching ability, his leadership and pretty much everything about him.
Yeah, since then he’s filed a racial discrimination against the NFL and the Giants, among others, claiming their interview with him was a “sham” just so they could comply with the Rooney Rule. But people drop and/or settle lawsuits all the time and move on with their lives. And if the Giants fire Daboll — which seems increasingly likely — that’s what the two parties should do here.
Lupica: Is Joe Schoen the guy to get Giants out of this mess? New York Daily News
John Mara isn’t worrying about drones in the air, the way so many Americans are these days. He’s far more concerned about these planes flying over MetLife Stadium, with a messages out of the past about lousy football.
Why exactly does Giants’ Joe Schoen deserve to stick around if Brian Daboll gets fired? | NJ.com
The Giants would have a quarterback and coach starting together who could build things deliberately and patiently — the best path for a true rebuild with a new quarterback. And then they’d have a GM facing pressure to deliver more immediate results.
Let’s say Mara and Tisch do it. Let’s say they fire Daboll and retain Schoen. How many coveted head coach candidates would be lining up to work for a hot-seat GM who has put together a brutal roster? Did Mara and Tisch learn nothing from 2020?
Giants fans want a new coach. But 2022 carousel shows how hard it can be to find right person | The Athletic
In 2022, an NFL-record-tying 10 new head coaches were hired. Less than three seasons later, only five remain in those roles. In some ways, finding that long-term head coach can be as hard as finding that long-term quarterback.
There are only six head coaches who’ve been in their roles since 2017 or longer. Another six were hired between 2019 and 2021 and are still in their roles. The remaining 20 jobs were 2022 hires or beyond. Turnover is a fact of life in the NFL coaching world.

How Brian Burns is giving the Giants everything they bargained for | New York Post
Brian Burns is again doing what he is accustomed to doing in lining up as an NFL outside linebacker.
New team, old tricks.
That means playing in every game. That means staying on the field for long stretches. That means applying pressure and accumulating sacks, not by the bushel, but enough to remind everyone he is a presence and a defender who needs to be accounted for on a snap-by-snap basis.
Presser Points: Drew Lock on track to start vs. Falcons | Giants.com
The Giants are “catching up” on their film study of Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr., the rookie eighth overall pick who was recently announced as the starter in place of veteran Kirk Cousins.
“Well, look, the defensive guys, a few days before were doing a lot of work on Cousins. Penix hasn’t played, I would say, a ton. He got in the Denver game when the score was out of hand, like seven snaps or somewhere around there. Seattle. Played in the preseason against Miami. And then we have tape from him in college. So, catching up to do relative to the starting quarterback,” said Daboll. “You’re looking at the player. So, I’ve looked at tape this morning back from Washington. I know the defensive coaches have as well. Again, he’s played sparingly. I think he’s thrown 22 passes in the preseason and the regular season.”

NFL mock draft, top 10 picks: Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders at No. 1? | The Athletic
2. New York Giants: Cam Ward, QB, Miami It’s hard for me to blame the Giants’ collapse completely on Brian Daboll. A coach is never innocent, but New York’s roster (and roster decision-making) has been a massive issue. It’ll be interesting to see whether ownership opts to just start over, ahead of what should be an opportunity to draft a QB in the top two.
The other option, of course, would be to allow the new regime to trade this valuable draft asset and further build out the rest of the roster before rolling the dice on a rookie QB. The Giants are the Giants, though, and New York loves to talk about quarterbacks.
Shedeur Sanders Talks Viral Video of Him, Giants’ Malik Nabers Playing Catch in NYC | Bleacher Report
“We were just sitting in there, talking about life and about everything, and we just went outside and were throwing the ball,” he said (3:45 mark). “And talking to him in person, I feel like it a tough situation that he was put in. I feel like they try to pain him a certain way, because I said he gives them the opportunity to do that. I recently went through the same stuff with the media, to where I’ve got to understand there’s some things I can say and some I can’t say.”

What Raheem Morris said about Falcons quarterback change | AtlantaFalcons.com
As time went on — and Cousins’ turnover-to-touchdown ratio became more lopsided — the once burning confidence of the Falcons’ belief in Cousins dwindled.
“I had a lot of confidence that we would play better. I had a lot of confidence that we would do better at the position. I had a lot of confidence that he would get back to his form,” Morris said. “And we just haven’t, for whatever reason. We have to figure those things out.”
Falcons put Younghoe Koo on IR, sign Riley Patterson | The Falcoholic
Younghoe Koo has been mired in the worst season of his career in Atlanta, missing kicks at an alarming and unusual rate. Now he’s heading to injured reserve with just three games remaining in the 2024 season. He’ll be replaced by Riley Patterson, who the team is signing away from the Browns practice squad. Patterson had a brief stint on Atlanta’s practice squad the last time Koo was listed as injured.

The Falcons could still sneak into the postseason. They’ll need help, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lead the NFC South. However, Atlanta won both regular-season meetings with Tampa and only needs to make up one game over the final three weeks to claim the division. With winnable contests against the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers remaining—plus, a more daunting matchup with the Washington Commanders—the Falcons could win out.
