2024 NFL Week 16: Minnesota Vikings at Seattle Seahawks
The race to the finish starts in Seattle
The race is on for playoff positioning in the NFC as we head into Week 16, and the Minnesota Vikings will try to keep their hot streak on track as they travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Seattle Seahawks.
As things stand heading into the season’s final three weeks, the Vikings are tied with Detroit for the top spot in the NFC North and control their own destiny as far as winning the division and, potentially, the top seed in the conference. They won their seventh consecutive game on Monday night by knocking off the Chicago Bears by a score of 30-12 at U.S. Bank Stadium to finish off a three-game homestand.
On the other side, the Seahawks have fallen out of the playoff picture in the NFC following a 30-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football in Week 15. They now sit in second place in the NFC West and could be without starting quarterback Geno Smith for this week’s game. Smith suffered a knee injury against the Packers and did not return to the game with Sam Howell finishing things out (poorly) for the Seahawks. He has not officially been ruled out of this week’s game and his status could be up in the air all the way up until kickoff on Sunday afternoon.
The Vikings have been historically bad against the Seahawks, winning just six of the 19 matchups between these two teams throughout their history, including their infamous playoff loss at TCF Bank Stadium in the 2015 playoffs. That includes winning just two of 12 matchups in Seattle, and the Vikings haven’t won in the Emerald City since a 31-13 victory over the Seahawks in 2006. They have lost their last five games in Seattle. Hopefully this trend will reverse itself in Week 16.
This game will kick off at 3:05 PM Central time on Sunday afternoon, and it will be carried by the FOX family of networks. We’ll have all of our stories about this week’s game here in one place for your convenience.
