Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Eagles revive passing game as Jalen Hurts deals with broken finger – ESPN

Brown and Smith each went over 100 yards receiving, marking the fourth time they’ve achieved the feat and setting a new record for the most such games by a duo in Eagles history. “The approach was a little different this week. The grass will be green where you water it, and we decided to water [the pass game], and you kind of saw the fruits of our labor in that,” Hurts said. Hurts and Brown connected for a 5-yard touchdown pass late in the first quarter to put Philadelphia up 10-3. They then broke into a choreographed dance celebration. “That was our moment to tell everybody to shut up,” Brown said.

Eagles vs. Steelers: 14 winners, 5 losers, 7 IDKs – BGN

Following the aftermath of last week, all eyes were on Hurts and the Eagles’ passing attack entering this game. And despite dealing with a broken finger on his non-throwing hand, Hurts stepped up and delivered in a big way. He was decisive. He was accurate. He was aggressive. He was in complete control. The Steelers entered Week 15 allowing the second-lowest average passer rating in the NFL at 79.2. Hurts’ passing numbers against Pittsburgh: 25/32 (78.1% completion), 290 yards (9.1 average), 2 TD, 0 INT, 125.3 passer rating. That’s to go with 15 carries for 45 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown … plus one lost fumble, which was the only significant blemish from an otherwise stellar showing. The Eagles can absolutely win the Super Bowl if Hurts looks this sharp in the playoffs. This was a confidence-inspiring performance.

Winners and Losers of NFL Week 15 – The Ringer

But this win went beyond the relationship between Hurts and Brown—and the race for home-field advantage. This was an identity-defining win for the Eagles against one of the toughest teams in football. The Steelers defense doesn’t get bullied very often, but I’m struggling to find a better word for what the Eagles did to Pittsburgh to close out the game. The Steelers had only two possessions in the second half thanks to the Eagles going on a 21-play, 88-yard drive over the final 10:29 of the game. NFL Week 15 Review: Josh Allen is Unstoppable – Sumer Sports

The Eagles remaining schedule includes the Commanders, Cowboys, and Giants. They would lose one seed tiebreakers to both the Lions and Vikings and thus will be looking for both teams to drop one more game. Their passing attack improving, even if all the way in Week 15, is important because it is the final piece for a team that boasts a top-end defense and a strong running game. Stuff the box against Saquon? Deal with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith outside. Play light boxes to prevent touch matchups in the pass game? Good luck against this offensive line.

‘So that’s what y’all wanted to see’: Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith quiet Eagles’ passing concerns vs. Steelers, ‘tell everybody to shut up’ – PHLY

“So that’s what y’all wanted to see, huh?” Jalen Hurts asked. Hurts spoke — and laughed — last on Sunday. After a week of scrutiny about the Eagles’ passing game, Hurts responded with perhaps his best performance of the season in a 27-13 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He finished 25 of 32 for 290 yards and two touchdowns along with 45 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown, and he looked like the version of himself that was a bona fide MVP candidate in 2022. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith were both outspoken that the passing offense needed to improve last week. They both exceeded 100 yards, reaching the mark together for the first time since 2022. The callbacks to 2022 make sense. Nick Sirianni said this week the Eagles had “2022 vibes,” but this group might be better. They’re now 12-2 and are on a franchise-record 10-game winning streak.

Roob’s Observations: Eagles collect monster win over Steelers – NBCSP

2. You want a passing game? Here’s your passing game. This was a statement from Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Nick Sirianni and Kellen Moore that the Eagles’ passing game is alive and well and fully capable of taking over a game against a top defense when needed. After netting 112 and 83 net passing yards the last two weeks against the Ravens and Panthers, the Eagles’ passing game woke up Sunday with 104 yards .. just in the first quarter. Right from the get go, Hurts looked sharp, Moore kept dialing up the mid-range passing game, and the Eagles made more plays through the air than they have since before the bye. Yeah, the last two weeks were ugly as far as the passing game goes, but we’ve seen Jalen have plenty of huge games in the past and there was no reason with Kellen Moore really focused on being balanced against the Steelers that he couldn’t bounce back. With these weapons? We kept saying there would be a day where the Eagles really needed to rely on the passing game. This was that kind of game, and Hurts, his line and his receivers responded to the challenge and came up huge.

Handing out 10 awards from the Eagles-Steelers game – PhillyVoice

“It felt like a year,” Cam Jurgens said. “I don’t care how many plays it was. It felt longer. I just think this team in general thrives in situations like that, where you can hang your hat and say, ‘We’re the tougher team. We’re the grittier team.’ We got a motto. Anyone can be the tougher player for one rep, but can you be the tougher player longer? Who’s tougher longer? That’s the team that’s gonna win.” That’s not the only motto the offensive line has. When hearing that the final drive was 21 plays, Jordan Mailata said, “Tough. Detailed. Together.” “I’m serious,” Mailata said. “Tough. Detailed. Together.” Mekhi Becton, eavesdropping in the background added his own “Tough. Detailed. Together.” “That’s grit,” Mailata said. “That’s grit. That’s ‘want to.’ That’s what it tells me about this team.”

Week 15 NFL Takeaways: How Nick Sirianni Guided Eagles Through a Bumpy Week – SI

“I’m not worried what the headlines are going to say tomorrow, right? But I do sincerely believe that we played complementary football today and that should send a message to everyone,”Mailata says. “Not like we’re trying to [send a message], it’s just that we know it is a great reminder for us moving forward of how much of a complete team we have. And if we protect the ball, if we play sound football? Coach has a saying: tough, detailed, together. I think tonight we really executed that.” All three elements of the slogan were on display over the game’s final 10:29.

2024 NFL season, Week 15: What We Learned from Sunday’s games – NFL.com

Eagles passed their way to statement victory over Steelers. After we spent the week debating what was wrong with the Eagles’ passing game — or who was to blame — they went out and threw the ball with authority in a dominant win over the Steelers. Jalen Hurts , who averaged 135 passing yards over his previous three games, threw for 290 yards and ran for a score, throwing the ball with precision and converting a few big plays with his legs. Hurts lost an early fumble, and Cooper DeJean also coughed one up, keeping the game closer than it should have been. Otherwise, it was all Eagles. Saquon Barkley was held mostly in check, but both A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith stepped up, with each receiving 10-plus targets in the same game for the first time since last season. Smith made a statement that he’s fully back from injury, catching 11 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown that put Philly up two scores early. The Eagles punted once, lost one fumble and knelt at the end of both halves. Even with some offensive issues after Landon Dickerson got hurt, they controlled the game throughout.

NFL Week 15 Recap: Philadelphia Eagles 27, Pittsburgh Steelers 13 – PFF

PLAYER OF THE GAME. Nolan Smith has struggled to live up to his first-round draft billing, but the second-year edge defender notched a career-high four quarterback pressures — including one sack — in the Eagles’ Week 15 win. Smith also played 40-plus snaps for the third straight week.

A.J. Brown injury updates: Eagles WR leaves Steelers game with leg injury – SB Nation

As noted, the tackle from Pittsburgh cornerback James Pierre looks like a textbook “hip-drop” tackle, which the league has begun to penalize. However, a flag did not follow on this play. The receiver was being evaluated by trainers as the rest of the Eagles offense ran out the clock.

Saquon Barkley “dealing with a little something,” falls behind record-breaking pace – PFT

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley missed big chunks of Sunday’s win over the Steelers and he discussed why Kenneth Gainwell saw more playing time when he spoke to reporters after the game. Barkley said that he’s “dealing with a little something,” but declined to expand on just what was bothering him during the game.

Spadaro: 6 takeaways from a statement win over the Steelers – PE.com

4. Oh, and that defense! It shined again! From the very start, the Eagles attacked the line of scrimmage and overwhelmed Pittsburgh to the tune of -19 yards on the Steelers’ first five possessions. Pittsburgh put up three points only after a Hurts fumble gave Pittsburgh the ball on the Eagles’ side of the 50-yard line (the defense held) and then after a Cooper DeJean fumble that the Steelers recovered at the Philadelphia 11-yard line and kicked a field goal. The Steelers picked up 10 first downs in this game. They gained 163 total net yards. TOTAL! They were 3 of 10 on third down. Philadelphia controlled the time of possession, 39 minutes, 52 seconds to Pittsburgh’s 20 minutes and 8 seconds. Total plays – Eagles 77 to Pittsburgh’s 42. Really, really remarkable and a total domination. “I’m really proud of the performance. I mean, put in tough situations, having to get stops when we needed to. We did a really good job overall, we were very detailed,” linebacker Zack Baun said. “We did a good job stopping the run. That’s a team that’s going to run the ball if they got a shot to kill clock. That was an emphasis this game, to stop the run and we definitely did that in the first quarter. That’s a perfect time to do it.”

Steelers fall to 10-4 with a loss in the ‘Pennsylvania State Championship’ – Behind The Steel Curtain

Pittsburgh always had an uphill battle in this contest; after all, the Steelers haven’t won in Philadelphia since 1965, a curse of sorts. However, despite being down a number of key playmakers, this team did show some grit on defense with their ability to generate turnovers, even if it wasn’t enough to make a difference in the end.

NFC playoff picture update: Lions maintain No. 1 spot despite loss, Eagles close gap – Pride Of Detroit

In Week 15, the Detroit Lions lost their first game since Week 2 of the 2024 season, falling to 12-2 on the year. While the Lions have already locked up a spot in the playoffs and still currently hold the No. 1 seed in the NFC, things have suddenly got a little tighter with three games remaining in the regular season.

Game Recap: Commanders survive late rally by Saints to hang on for a 20-19 win – Hogs Haven

On the final offensive play of the game, Moreau caught the ball in the end zone as time expired. With no time on the clock and the score 20-19, interim head coach Darren Rizzi decided to go for 2 and the win. On the 2-point try, Spencer Rattler rolled right and threw for Juwan Johnson on the right side about a yard inside the end zone. Johnson was unable to make the catch, and the Commanders moved to 9-5 with a 20-19 win!

Dallas Cowboys at Carolina Panthers recap: Cowboys dominate in 30-14 win, improve to 6-8 – Blogging The Boys

Some will say that it is all for naught, but consider that the Cowboys were 3-7 when the entire world was heaving jokes at them. They are 3-1 in games since, all of which have been played with Cooper Rush under center and season-ending injuries happening to cornerstone players on an almost weekly basis. It goes without saying that this is not what we want to see from the team in an overall perspective, but a thorough performance when we have said one such as it was impossible is an objectively impressive thing. Call it cliche or whatever you’d like, but this team has resolve and fight and they proved that on Sunday afternoon by getting to 6-8. The playoffs, however faintly, still have a beating pulse for them.

Giants-Ravens final score: Giants routed by Baltimore, 35-14 – Big Blue View

The New York Giants were routed by the Baltimore Ravens, 35-14, on Sunday. That is New York’s ninth straight loss, dropping their record to 2-12. Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson threw five touchdown passes in the victory. There was a plane that flew overhead demanding changes by the Giants for the second straight week, as well as fans wearing bags on their heads near the end of the game. The Giants were down to quarterback Tim Boyle in the second half after Tommy DeVito, who was replacing the injured Drew Lock, suffered a concussion.

Report: Patrick Mahomes ‘week-to-week’ with ankle injury from Chiefs-Browns game – Arrowhead Pride

According to Rapoport’s source, Mahomes’ injury is now considered “week-to-week.” Quarterback Carson Wentz finished the game.
