This could be huge.
After the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Dallas Cowboys Monday night, the team’s two best players essentially put pressure on the organization.
The subject of retaining Tee Higgins was brought up to both Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. When faced with the questions, both expressed confidence that the team could bring Higgins back.
Higgins’ agent, David Mulugheta, isn’t necessarily a friend of the Bengals. They weren’t able to agree on a new contract for Jessie Bates III, who is also represented by Mulugheta and history just doesn’t bode well for the two sides getting a deal done for Higgins.
Could that hurdle be out of the way? ESPN’s Dan Graziano is reporting that Higgins is considering an agent change and is no longer listed as a Mulugheta client on the NFLPA website.
“There are rumblings that Higgins is pondering an agent change (he’s no longer listed with his previous agent on the official NFLPA site, but he’s also not yet listed with a new one), which sometimes indicates a change in the player’s negotiating stance,” Graziano wrote. ”And Burrow’s confidence shouldn’t be ignored completely, as he’s not the type to just say things like that off the cuff.”
This is certainly interesting timing, with Burrow and Chase’s comments just coming on Monday night. Higgins also said that he never closed the door on a return to Cincinnati.
Burrow wants Higgins back. Chase wants Higgins back. If Higgins is really changing representation, that is a good sign that Higgins wants to come back, but at what cost?
This is definitely something to monitor going forward.
