Jon Runyan is “week-to-week, maybe more,” says head coach Brian Daboll
The New York Giants’ offensive line, already with star left tackle Andrew Thomas on IR with a Lisfranc injury and tackle Jermaine Eluemunor having missed two games with a quad injury, might be about to take another hit.
Starting left guard Jon Runyan Jr., who left Sunday’s loss to the New Orleans Saints with an ankle injury, is “week-to-week, maybe more than week-to-week,” head coach Brian Daboll said Monday afternoon.
Runyan, signed to a three-year, $30 million contract ($17 million guaranteed) in the offseason, has started all 13 games at left guard this season. Runyan been charged with allowing just two sacks this season, but has also allowed a career-worst 29 quarterback pressures in 13 games.
Veteran guard Aaron Stinnie stepped in when Runyan went down. Undrafted rookie free agent Jake Kubas also played after center John Michael Schmitz left with an injury.
Rookie safety Tyler Nubin, who leads the Giants with 98 tackles, also came out of Sunday’s game with an ankle injury. Daboll did not have test results back yet.
Daboll said Schmitz “looks OK” after an MRI, “but he’s sore.”
Lock will continue at QB
Quarterback Drew Lock went for X-rays after completing just 21 of 49 passes in Sunday’s loss. Daboll said he “sore” and will be getting an MRI on Monday.
Daboll, though, did say the plan is for Lock to continue as the team’s starting quarterback this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens.
“Drew will be at quarterback this week, unless he can’t be based on injury,” Daboll said.
