The NFL fined Bears CB nearly $20K for a Thanksgiving incident that led to Jameson Williams’ personal foul penalty.
On Saturday, the NFL announced their Gameday Accountability fines from Week 13, and there was a bit of delayed justice handed down from an incident during the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears game on Thanksgiving. Bears cornerback Tyyrique Stevenson was assessed a nearly $20,000 fine for his part in a personal foul called against the Lions Jameson Williams.
On the play in question, the Lions put Williams in pre-snap motion, and then Jared Goff threw him a flare out into the flat. After the catch, Williams ran up the Bears’ sideline and was eventually pushed out of bounds.
As Williams exited onto the sidelines, you could see Stevenson (who was not involved in the play) stick his leg out to trip Williams. As Williams made his way back onto the field, he tossed the ball toward Stevenson, hitting him in the face, and in turn, Williams was flagged for a personal foul penalty.
Here’s a video clip from the NFL that highlights the trip from Stevenson:

And if the video isn’t clear enough, here are two still shots from the All-22 angle, showing Stevenson’s foot placement before Williams crosses Stevenson’s path (inside the white line) and after (outside the white line):

While Williams not being fined is an acknowledgment of him not being responsible for starting the incident, Williams’ response of tossing the football at Stevenson was certainly worthy of the personal foul penalty, which is why he addressed the team and apologized for his reaction.
Asked Jameson Williams about his unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
