Giants 2025: How many building blocks can one of the league’s worst rosters actually have? | The Athletic
During his bye week news conference three weeks ago, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen spoke optimistically about having 19 of 22 starters under contract for next year. That’s not as encouraging as Schoen intended, considering the “nucleus” he has formed has an NFL-worst 2-10 record.
There are some building blocks and promising young players on the roster. But how much of the foundation is actually in place? Here’s a position-by-position breakdown of the roster, with players listed by the final years of their contracts.

Young Giants can seize leadership chance as injuries ravage roster | New York Post
“You definitely notice it,” said Brian Burns, one of those few remaining influential veterans with a future on the team. “Just because of their presence and their impact. … Their impact speaks for itself. I think everyone’s done a good job of keeping the main thing the main thing and realizing that we might be missing them guys, but we gotta get a job done. People step up in different ways all the time. [Pinnock], Micah [McFadden], there’s been plenty of guys that lead in certain ways. I think it’s a team effort.”

Bottom line: Many Giants fans are openly rooting for them to lose, so they can draft their preferred quarterback at No. 1 next spring, even though the 2025 NFL Draft is not considered an elite one for quarterbacks. (The Giants are currently third in the draft order, behind the 2-10 Jaguars, who won’t take a quarterback, and 2-10 Raiders, who certainly could.)
While losing out — 2-15 with 12 straight losses — would help the Giants’ draft position, it could very well doom Daboll and Schoen, who would in that scenario shatter the franchise-record nine-game losing streak. Oh, and if the Giants don’t win in Philadelphia in Week 18 — a tall order — they’ll go winless in the NFC East for the first time ever.
Dabs’ Digest: Week 14 conversation with Coach Brian Daboll | Giants.com
Q: You’ve said several times he did some good stuff. What were some of the good things that you took away from his performance?
Daboll: “He made some loose plays with his feet. He did a nice job, when he did move, of keeping his eyes downfield. He gave our guys some chances on some explosive plays. We’ve got to clean up the turnovers.”
Q: He does have a higher rate of turnovers than Tommy. Was that a consideration as you decided what to do for this game?
Daboll: “I think that he played one game, obviously doing a bunch in the walkthroughs (during the practice week). But we’ll give him a chance to go out there and practice and do things full speed and give him a chance to go out there and play this game.”
Pugh: Daboll is one of the best coaches I’ve ever been around
Hear me out @Giants fans.
Keep GM and HC in place. Continuity is key in the @NFL. Let them draft their QB and allow them to spend big in free agency.
Schoen is catching a ton of slack for letting free agents walk but we’re looking at a 14 game sample. (I still think Saquon…

How Giants Are Addressing Kickoff Returner Eric Gray’s Ball Security Issues | SI.com
Ghobrial said there’s no common thread in Gray’s fumble-itis, pointing to losing one’s feet during transitions or simply not protecting the ball with two hands while in traffic.
“Eric has done a great job. He has. I know the fumbles stick out. But he has done a good job in terms of creating good drive-starting positions for our offense,” he said.“He just has to hold on to the ball. …Sometimes those fumbles overshadow the production that he is having consistently.”

No. 3 New York Giants: Shedeur Sanders QB Colorado. With Cam Ward off the board, New York’s choice is pretty straight forward. Shedeur Sanders has done a good job moving around in the pocket and reading out defenses for periods of this season. Will Deion Sanders be a part of a package deal?

New Orleans Saints see big picture of NFC South Division even as they focus on the small one of winning this week | NewOrleansSaints.com
With five regular-season games remaining, time clearly isn’t on their side, but Atlanta (6-6) has lost three straight games as it prepares for a road trip against Minnesota (10-2), and Tampa Bay (6-6) had lost four straight games before righting its ship with two straight wins. The Buccaneers play the Raiders (2-10) at home Sunday.
“The bottom line is there’s something to be said when you’re still playing for something,” Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi said. “We’re playing to win this game this week, but there is that big picture out there, that we still have the opportunity to potentially win our division.

Saints quarterback Derek Carr has a 6-0 touchdown-to-interception ratio since returning in Week 9 from an oblique injury. That’s the most passing touchdowns without an interception by any quarterback in that span.
Our defense vs their offense: New York Giants | Canal Street Chronicles
The Saints defense has been very susceptible to the pass all season, but even more so since they traded away Marshon Lattimore. However, the Saints defense is coming off a game where they held the Rams to under 200 yards passing, which was partially due to them having so much success on the ground.
The Saints defense, as we all know, is pretty dang bad against the run. They rank 26th in opponent rushing yards per game (136) and 31st in opponent rushing yards per attempt (5.1). They got gashed by the Rams last week, who ran for 154 yards while averaging 5.4 yards per carry.
