Giants add to the roster
The New York Giants, with injuries popping up all over the roster, have claimed cornerback/kick returner Dee Williams off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.
Williams, a rookie undrafted free agent who played at Tennessee, appeared in 12 games for the Seahawks. He returned 15 punts for an average 7.4 yards per return, and nine kickoffs for an average 28.2 yards per return.
Williams, 5-foot-10, 190 pounds, played only four defensive snaps for the Seahawks.
With Eric Gray struggling with ball security on kickoffs, Williams perhaps provides the Giants with an option there. Gray has fumbled three times in 20 kickoff returns this seasons. Williams, though, has fumbled three times in his 24 return opportunities.
SB Nation’s Field Gulls called Williams “an unmitigated disaster” as a return man for Seattle.
Ihmir Smith-Marsette has been solid, returning 21 punts for an average 7.2 yards per return and six kickoffs for an average of 29.7 yards per return.
With Deonte Banks now missing a second straight game with a rib injury, perhaps Williams could also provide the Giants with depth at cornerback.
