New York Giants: Show Growth in the Secondary
The defense, however, has a real shot at showing progress. It’s a group with two rookies in Tyler Nubin and Andru Phillips who look like long-term solutions. The Giants will have some decisions to make at cornerback in the offseason. Deonte Banks has struggled this year, Adoree’ Jackson is a pending free agent, and Cor’Dale Flott is still only a borderline starter.
The secondary is where Bowen and the Giants can make some headway. If the player and the team can get on the same page with their scheme and show improvement, it will set them up to compete in 2025 and potentially save some jobs.

NY Giants vs New Orleans Saints keys to victory, matchups and prediction | The Record
Drew Lock is starting again at quarterback, and he needs to get the football in the hands of the Giants’ two playmaking rookies: WR Malik Nabers and RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. Who will step up and lead Big Blue? Their best player, DT Dexter Lawrence, is likely out for the season with a dislocated elbow. Only two of their five captains selected by the players before the season will be active Sunday (LB Bobby Okereke and LS Casey Kreiter) with the other three either injured (Lawrence and LT Andrew Thomas) or on another team (Daniel Jones). The run defense was gashed with Lawrence. How they handle the Saints up front will go a long way in determining if they can stay in this one.

Outside linebacker Brian Burns, who was named best bend/flex. “A fluid mover with incredible lower-body flex, Burns has six sacks and 39 pressures this season,” wrote Matt Bowen. “And his pass rush win rate of 23.0% ranks fourth.”
Defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence who received two honors, most physical defensive lineman and the league’s best run-stopper.
“Lawrence uses his massive frame and strength at 6-foot-4 and 340 pounds to control the interior of the front,” said Bowen. “He demands double-teams in the run game, and his nine sacks are the most for a defensive tackle.”

The Giants’ offensive line overhaul hasn’t solved their protection woes. They’ve allowed pressure on 38.8% of dropbacks this season, ranking 29th in the NFL. Even more concerning, they’ve allowed 123 “quick” pressures (under 2.5 seconds), the sixth-most in the league.

Giants’ odds of picking No. 1: 30%
A major reason why their odds are so high now is that they have no easy games the rest of the way. They play the Saints this week, and that’s the best chance they have to win a game for the rest of the season. After the Saints, all four remaining games are against teams in the playoff hunt, with two of them coming on the road.
Hail Mary pass- Will the Giants gamble on Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward? | nj.com
Giants general manager Joe Schoen was watching warmups before Colorado’s home game against Utah when a critic shouted at him, over and over, from Folsom Field’s stands: “Get rid of Daniel Jones!” the fan screamed. Even 1,600 miles away, wanna-be NFL executives knew what the Giants had to do.
And two days later, on Nov. 18, the Giants essentially did just that. They benched Jones — their struggling sixth-year quarterback — and shut him down in practice, to avoid his $23 million injury guarantee in 2025. Four days after that, Jones, who already had banked $108 million of the Giants’ money in his six seasons, asked for — and was granted — his release, ending his failure-filled tenure in East Rutherford.

3. New York Giants QB Cam Ward, Miami. The Miami star is a dynamic playmaker with a good-sized frame, strong arm, and penchant for the big play. A five-year starter who played two seasons at Incarnate Word, two seasons at Washington State, and his final season at Miami, Ward brings plenty of experience and a dual-threat skill set to New York. If he can feed 2024 first-round pick receiver Malik Nabers and take care of the football better than Jones ever did, Ward will give the Giants a shot at competing in the NFC East once again.
Day 2 and Day 3 Projected Quarterbacks Who Could Fit Giants’ System | SI.com
We all know the names of the potential first-round quarterbacks in the 2025 draft–Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward and Jalen Milroe. But who are some names who, if they’re available, could be just as intriguing for the Giants to add on either Day 2 or Day 3? They include Drew Allar of Penn State, Kurtis Rourke of Indiana, an Riley Leonard of Notre Dame.

Rizzi was born in Hillsdale, N.J., and attended Bergen Catholic High in Oradell, N.J. So when Rizzi returns to New Jersey as an NFL head coach for the first time – even as an interim head coach – it’ll be a significant occasion. But Rizzi, who has led the Saints to a 2-1 record, really can’t take the time to make it seem as such.
“I’ve got to practice what I preach, quite frankly, with the players,” he said Wednesday. “I’ve got to stay locked in, I can’t get too wrapped up in the moment.

The Saints defense has struggled to contain yards after the catch (YAC) this season, allowing an average of 6.5 YAC per completion — tied for the most in the league with the Dallas Cowboys. Compounding the issue, they’ve struggled to bring down pass-catchers on first contact, surrendering 2.54 yards after contact per completion. That figure ties them with Dallas for the second-most in the NFL, trailing only the New York Giants.
