They made a couple of other moves as well
With the availability of Stephon Gilmore for this Sunday’s game against Atlanta up in the air, the Minnesota Vikings have added a bit of veteran insurance to the roster.
The team has announced that they have signed cornerback Kelvin Joseph to the practice squad.
Joseph was a second-round pick (#44 overall) of the Dallas Cowboys in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Kentucky. He spent his first two seasons with Dallas and was traded to the Miami Dolphins ahead of the 2023 season. Miami waived him during the season and he finished the year with the Seattle Seahawks. He then signed a futures contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, but was waived by them at the end of training camp. He has since been back and forth to the Indianapolis Colts’ pracice squad a couple of times but was a free agent when the Vikings brought him in.
In his four NFL seasons, Joseph has appeared in 33 games with three starts. He has one fumble recovery to his credit and no interceptions. If the Vikings do bring him up to the main roster he could also play a significant role on special teams.
In other moves, the Vikings released long snapper Jake McQuaide, an indication that Andrew DePaola will be ready to make his return against the Falcons on Sunday. They also waived running back Myles Gaskin from the practice squad, marking the sixth time that Gaskin has been released by the Vikings over the past two seasons. I believe that if he gets one more on his punch card he’s entitled to a free car wash.
We’ll have the first injury reports of the week later on today as preparations for this Sunday’s game get underway in earnest.
