The Minnesota Vikings (10-2) host the Atlanta Falcons (6-6) on Sunday. It will be the return of former Viking Kirk Cousins. Cousins was in Minnesota for six years after spending his first six years in the NFL in Washington. The results here were polarizing at best. The stats were nice, but the results weren’t there at the end. One playoff win in six years wasn’t enough. Many here wanted Kirk back and many, like me, wanted him gone. He is getting old and an Achilles Tendon injury is not easy to return from. Cousins was one of the stars of Netflix’s Quarterback that was released prior to last season. That appearance did show the personal side of Kirk than many fans enjoy.
Cousins start in Atlanta has also been rocky. The team decided to draft Michael Penix Jr with the 8th pick in the draft. That was a plan Cousins apparently wasn’t made aware of prior to his signing. Six games into the year the Falcons were 4-2 with the Chiefs getting a very controversial no call for pass interference at the end. Kirk was Swag Surfing with the fans after the games. ‘Kirko Chains’ was back and better than ever in Atlanta. That quickly changed as ‘Kirtober’ ended. The Falcons are 2-4 in their last six games. Kirk is coming off a four interception game that they lost at home by four points. The fans were asking for Penix and it’s starting to turn on him.
His results in Atlanta shouldn’t have anything to with whether or not the fans boo in Minnesota on Sunday. It might make some feel better about losing Kirk. Personally, I would boo Kirk if I were there on Sunday. Kirk has always been a personal success over team success player. He talks about it constantly. It’s not the money but what the money represents. I have no issue with that, but it’s not someone I cheer for on Sunday. I am very happy he ended up signing in Atlanta.
