Did TJ Watt intentionally twist Joe Burrow’s ankle?

If Sunday’s game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers was your first between the hated rivals, first of all, welcome to the sh*t show. Secondly, that was one of the tamer showdowns between the two teams.

You see, the Bengals and Steelers don’t like each other very much, and both have accused the other of playing dirty at times. There wasn’t anything obvious in this game, but upon a second viewing of TJ Watt’s strip-sack and tackle of Joe Burrow, it appears as if the edge rusher intentionally rolls the quarterback’s ankle.

Take a look at Brian Baldinger’s breakdown of the play, though he doesn’t say anything about the ankle being rolled.

There was once a time when the Steelers, along with several other teams around the NFL, denounced the Bengals as the dirtiest team in the NFL, largely because of similar antics from then linebacker Vontaze Burfict.

Burfict, a linebacker better fit for an older age of NFL football that cared even less for the safety of its players, had a well-earned reputation around the league for going a little too hard. That reputation, and the fact he faced so many suspensions, ended his career possibly a little prematurely.

Watt’s career is obviously not in jeopardy, but it will be interesting to see whether or not the NFL decides he should have turned loose of Burrow’s foot a few seconds earlier by fining him.
