Reed Blankenship injury: Eagles safety ruled out of Ravens game

With just over two minutes left in the third quarter on Sunday, the Eagles secondary made a big play, breaking up a deep pass by the Ravens. Unfortunately, as Cooper DeJean, Reed Blankenship, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson descended on the ball, Blankenship ended up taking a shot to the head and had to leave the game.

Shortly after being evaluated in the blue medical tent on the sideline, the safety made his way into the locker room and was ultimately ruled out with a concussion.

Blankenship had an injury scare last week, and this after DC Vic Fangio acknowledged that he is the quarterback of the secondary. He plays a big role in the success that the team has been having on that side of the ball, and having him on the field is always better than not — something we all learned last year after he suffered several rib injuries.

Tristan McCollum took the field in his place. Fangio had previously talked about how McCollum had the most reps going back through training camp, so he felt comfortable naming him the backup heading into this game.

Hopefully Blankenship isn’t out long-term, and he’ll be back to snagging interceptions again in no time.
