The Buffalo Bills will now continue their 2024 season in a well-rested fashion.
In Week 13, the Bills (9-2) host the San Francisco 49ers. That comes after Buffalo had their bye week off last weekend.
Sean McDermott took over as head coach in Buffalo in 2017. Since then, the Bills have done very well in games following an extended period off. How well? McDermott has the Bills undefeated in those outings.
Here is a rundown of each of those occasions:
2017: Week 7 vs. Buccaneers
USAT
Final: Bills 30, Buccaneers 27
Running back LeSean McCoy had 122 all-purpose yards.
2018: Week 12 vs. Jaguars
USAT
Final: Bills 24, Jaguars 21
Then-rookie QB Josh Allen returned to the lineup following injury after this bye. He scored two touchdowns even though Allen was just 8-for-19 passing.
2019: Week 7 vs. Dolphins
USAT
Final: Bills 31, Dolphins 21
Allen had two touchdowns to receivers Cole Beasley and John Brown to beat the Dolphins. This was the game safety Micah Hyde spun around mid-air and returned an onside kick for a touchdown as well.
2020: Week 12 vs. Chargers
USAT
Final: Bills 27, Chargers 17
This one is a bit different. The Bills’ rushing attack and creativity took the win. Running backs Devin Singletary (82 yards) and Zack Moss (59) both contributed. Allen scored on the ground as well. But Beasley’s touchdown pass highlighted the day.
2021: Week 7 vs. Dolphins
USAT
Final: Bills 26, Dolphins 11
Allen had three scores. Two touchdown passes and another rushing.
2022: Week 8 vs. Packers

Final: Bills 27, Packers 17
This prime-time win on Sunday Night Football saw the Bills ahead, comfortably, for most of the evening. Buffalo beat the Chiefs the week prior to their bye as well.
2023: Week 14 at Chiefs
USAT
Final: Bills 20, Chiefs 17
Tyler Bass kicked the winner late but the Bills defense managed to still hold the Chiefs offense near midfield.
