Should John Mara move on, or allow Schoen and Daboll the chance to finish what they were hired to do?
Things have gotten bleak for the 2-9 New York Giants. They’re pretty widely considered to be among the worst teams in the NFL and are in line for a Top 5 (or possibly even first overall) draft pick.
It didn’t start out that way, and things were actually hopeful to start the season.
The Giants had an eye on the 2024 quarterback class, but ultimately selected Malik Nabers once it was clear that they couldn’t trade up for their preferred passers. As assistant GM Brandon Brown said on Hard Knocks, the Giants didn’t believe that J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix, or Bo Nix could help the team right away.
The team made the decision to go all in on Daniel Jones, allowing Saquon Barkley and Xavier McKinney to leave via free agency and reallocating those resources in the offensive line and Brian Burns.
The majority of fans were confident that the team was headed in the right direction when the season started.
A few months later, the team benched and then released Jones, and the future of the franchise is a complete mystery.
It was obvious that Jones would be benched following a bad overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers. He has played poorly this year and the team had to move on while protecting themselves from his injury guarantee.
But now, there’s talk in the media and among the fanbase that the Giants’ leadership could follow Jones out the door. While John Mara expressed his support of Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll earlier in the year, we have to wonder if that’s changed in the wake of a downright embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
So now we put it to the Big Blue View community:
Should Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll be fired? Or should they be allowed the opportunity to find “Their Guy” at quarterback and build the team from the foundation up as opposed to trying to rehabilitate a passer selected by Dave Gettleman and Pat Shurmur?
