It’s almost hard to keep track of all the ways Saquon Barkley is making history with how special he’s been in a Philadelphia Eagles uniform.
The latest unprecedented accomplishment?
Barkley was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, according to an official NFL announcement.
No Eagles player has ever won four POTW awards in one season. They’ve had three who’ve won three:
- Jake Elliott in 2023 (3 special teams)
- Darren Sproles in 2014 (1 offense, 2 special teams)
- DeSean Jackson in 2009 (1 offense, 2 special teams)
Barkley is one offensive POTW award away from tying the all-time single season record. The following three players each got to five:
- Lamar Jackson in 2019
- Cam Newton in 2015
- Tom Brady in 2007
And you know what those players share in common? They were named the Most Valuable Player in those years.
Barkley certainly bolstered his MVP case on in the Eagles’ Week 12 win over the Los Angeles Rams with a career-high 255 rushing yards. He broke the Eagles’ single-game rushing record (previously held by LeSean McCoy’s 217 in 2013) and the Eagles’ single-game yards from scrimmage record (previously held by Duce Staley’s 262 in 2000).
Given how unstoppable he looks at the moment, no one will be surprised if he wins a fifth offensive POTW award. Maybe even a sixth … or a seventh?
