Is Philadelphia looking to add yet another new edge defender to the team?
The Philadelphia Eagles have been busy bolstering their pass rush rotation in wake of Brandon Graham’s season-ending injury. So far, they’ve added Charles Harris to their roster via waiver claim and signed KJ Henry to their practice squad.
Might another move be in the works?
The Eagles worked out free agent edge defender Malik Reed on Tuesday, as noted by Aaron Wilson.
Reed, 28, has notable ties to Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. He originally signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted rookie free agent during Fangio’s first season as Denver’s head coach back in 2019. They overlapped for three seasons. After spending 2022 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Reed was then reunited with Fangio when he signed with the Miami Dolphins not once but twice in 2023.
It might also be worth noting that Eagles senior personnel executive Matt Russell was the Broncos’ director of player personnel when Denver signed Reed in 2019.
Anyway, Reed has been a free agent since his practice squad contract with the Dolphins expired following the 2023 season. The Eagles might want to add him to their practice squad; they opened a spot on Tuesday evening.
With 38 starts in 63 career games played, Reed brings experience and production to the table. He’s logged 16 sacks, 16 TFLs, and 34 QB hits.
The Eagles seem to be taking the approach of throwing a lot of different edge rusher options at the wall to see what sticks.
