The Detroit Free Press dove into Jameson Williams’ background and shared some fascinating stories. That and more in Notes.
As we all know, how a person comes up through their youth can really shape someone. How they think about things, how they trust people, and how they move through life can all be formed through early experiences. So when you consider the circumstances on how Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams was raised, you begin to understand the person beyond the football player.
Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press wrote a really good article on how Williams knows he messed up, and because of his upbringing, is more than ready to put these bumps in the road behind him.
As far as his time in his hometown of St. Louis, one memory Williams carries with him is when coaches from Ohio State were in town to meet with he and his family at their home on the south side of the city.
“We (were) just eating dinner on the couch, boom, it go down outside,” Williams recalled in an interview with the Free Press this week. “They asked me, ‘What is that?’ You know what it is. It’s gunshots, it’s a shootout right outside the house, bro. So after that they just got up out of there and it was just that.”
Birkett writes about the people who helped raised Williams and kept him working on his craft as a football player and a track athlete, and off of the streets that would only hinder his ability to attain his ultimate dream—playing in the NFL.
