L.A. goes for their fourth straight win
With both teams seemingly going in opposite directions, the Los Angeles Rams are set to host the Miami Dolphins at SoFi Stadium on Monday Night Football. Kickoff is 5:15 p.m. PST. L.A. is riding high on a three-game win streak, while the ‘Phins have lost three consecutive games.
One thing for sure, Miami is a totally different team with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the lineup. When the QB sat out Weeks 3 through 7 with concussion problems, the Dolphins offense averaged a paltry 275 total yards and 10 points per game. Compare that with 376 total yards and 21 points when he’s under center.
As for weapons, the ‘Phins often line up with only two wide receivers, but Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are ultra-fast game breakers. The run game is by committee, De’von Achane, Raheem Mostert, and Jaylen Wright run behind fullback Alec Ingold about 40% of snaps. Tight end is also by committee with speedy Jonnu Smith and blockers Julian Hill and Durham Smythe.
Even though their record is 2-6, Miami has played fairly well on defense. They do give up 23.4 points per game (16th), but only allow 183.1 yards a game passing (4th), a 62.3% completion rate (7th), and an 86.3 QB rating (11th). Tough against the run as well, giving up a total of 960 yards (10th) and 120 yards per game (13th) at a 4.4 clip (12th). They don’t get a lot of pressure 20.4% (22nd) or sacks 10 (t31st), considering they blitz at a 27.2% rate (13th).
Are the Rams returning back to health at the right time? Can the defense hold the Dolphins deep receiving threats under control, while at the same, continuing their strong play against the run? And, can the L.A. offense start hitting on all cylinders?
