It’s been a rough go for Antonio Pierce’s team
The Las Vegas Raiders season is just more than half over as they sit at 2-7 on their bye week. Let’s review where the team and how they got here:
Quick summary of the pre-bye season:
It’s been crazy. The team has been mostly uncompetitive as they have trailed by, at least, 10 points in all nine of their games. They traded unhappy star wide receiver Davante Adams to the New York Jets, fired three offensive coaches including coordinator Luke Getsy and have dealt with many injuries. In short, Antonio Pierce’s first season as head coach has been a disaster.
Offensive MVP:
Brock Bowers. The rookie tight end has been fantastic. He has 52 catches and has been historically good. The tight end from Georgia is on pace for 107 receptions, which would shatter the NFL rookie catch record of 86 set by Sam LaPorta of the Detroit Lions last season.
Defensive MVP:
Maxx Crosby. The guy is special. Yes, he has missed a game, but still he has been so dominant when he has been on the field. He tries every play. Crosby has 6.5 sacks.
Rookie of the quarter:
It’s Bowers, while some rookies such as starting offensive linemen Jackson Powers-Johnson and D.J. Glaze have had their moments.
What sticks out:
The 2-7 record and all the drama that came with it. Pierce, the choice of the roster, has been unable to bring the stability and consistency he vowed to offer. the season isn’t over, but the chaos and ineffective play has been unexpected and disappointing,
Bold prediction for the rest of the season:
The Raiders may win a few more games, but this will likely be 4-6 win team and select near the top of the draft again as they try to figure out their quarterback solution.
