Colts QB Anthony Richardson may just need the experience and added reps to fulfill his massive ability and potential, right?
On ‘The Pat McAfee Show,’ Buffalo Bills NFL All-Pro quarterback Josh Allen remains a big proponent of Indianapolis Colts 2nd-year quarterback Anthony Richardson—regardless of his recent (and surprising) demotion:

Hopefully he can learn from Joe Flacco and grow from this situation” ~ @JoshAllenQB #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/Je21UDtb5L

Particularly of interest was that Allen indicated that “more reps” helped to “slow things down” for him earlier in his NFL career—which is notable given that the Colts have at least publicly stated that longtime veteran quarterback Joe Flacco will be the starter for the remainder of the 2024 season after a recent change.
That is, despite Richardson only having 10 career pro starts to his name to-date.
What’s also interesting is that Allen, at a highly athletic 6’5,” 237 pounds—with a rocket arm, is actually one of the elite quarterbacks that the uber-athletic Richardson is often compared to, along with former Carolina Panthers NFL MVP Cam Newton.
In fact, both Richardson and Allen’s stats through their first 10 career starts are surprisingly very similar—and still provide continued hope that the former 4th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft can still realize his supernova talent and potential, after overcoming his benching:
The questions right now though are how long can the Colts afford to wait and how does sitting Richardson for the remainder of the season really advance the franchise forward bigger picture because: A) Indianapolis needs to know what they have with Richardson, while waiting longer simply delays the timeline, and B) Richardson already missed 13 starts last year as a rookie due to a season-ending shoulder surgery, meaning how many starts this year are you planning on losing (*particularly when it’s self-inflicted sitting)?
