The Philadelphia Eagles announced two transactions on Thursday afternoon. Here’s an overview:
- DE Tarron Jackson was signed to the practice squad.
- QB Will Grier was released from the practice squad.
Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.
TARRON JACKSON
You’ll recall Jackson from the Eagles selecting him with a sixth-round pick (No. 191 overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft. He appeared in 21 games over his first two seasons before being demoted to the practice squad for most of 2022 and all of 2023.
Stuck deep down the depth chart, Jackson failed to make the Eagles’ 2024 roster despite some preseason production (one sack, two TFLs). He signed with the Carolina Panthers practice squad and was later signed to their roster. Jackson played 28 defensive snaps and 21 special teams snaps in three games before being released.
The Eagles apparently decided they wanted some more edge rusher depth and thus Jackson is back in Philly.
WILL GRIER
A little interesting that the Eagles decided to part ways with Grier. They didn’t really need to keep him around as a fourth-string quarterback behind Jalen Hurts, Kenny Pickett, and Tanner McKee. But that they did prior to this point seemed to signal they liked having him around in the quarterback room. One would think he’s helped his fellow quarterbacks get adjusted to offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and QB coach Doug Nussmeier, given his previous experience with them.
