Checking in with Detroit Lions fans for our latest SB Nation Reacts survey: After 8 games, who are the Lions’ offensive and defensive MVPs?
Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Detroit Lions fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
Each week, in our SB Nation Reacts Survey, we will provide readers with a question or two specifically geared toward Detroit Lions fans, with an article exploring the results released later in the week. In this installment, we have three questions: the first being a recurring weekly question, and the next being designed for the de facto mid-way point of the season:
1. Are you confident the Lions are headed in the right direction? (weekly poll)
2. After 8 games, who is the Lions offensive MVP?
3. Who is the Lions defensive MVP?
Confidence in the Lions (7-1) organization has been incredible for the majority of the season, peaking at 99% of fans backing the team after they beat the Seahawks, then landing at 98% fan confidence following the dismantling in Dallas, remained at 98% following a huge win over the Minnesota Vikings, and dipped a tiny bit to 96% after hanging 52 points on the Titans. Now, after easily handling the Packers in Lambeau field (the third consecutive time they’ve done that), it’s time to check in again.
For the second and third questions, we have provided fans with five options for each, with some repeats from our quarter-season surveys. For example, David Montgomery ran away with the offensive MVP voting and returns to defend his title. Meanwhile, Aidan Hutchinson earned 93% of the defensive MVP votes, but with his injury knocking him out of the season, we’ve added a few new players and will have a new leader for the award.
Here’s a look at the candidates for the mid-season MVP awards:
Who is the Lions Offensive MVP?
- Jared Goff — was voted by NFL fans as the NFL mid-season MVP last week
- David Montgomery — as the returning champ, can he defend his spot?
- Jahmyr Gibbs — is arguably the most dynamic offensive weapon in the NFL
- Amon-Ra St. Brown — unreal consistency and production
- Penei Sewell — the best offensive lineman in the NFL
Who is the Lions Defensive MVP?
- Alim McNeill — a massive disruptor in the middle of the Lions defense
- Jack Campbell — arguably the biggest riser on the Lions defense
- Brian Branch — voted the most important post-Hutchinson defender in a previous poll
- Kerby Joseph — leads the NFL in interceptions with six picks in eight games
- Carlton Davis III — CB1 and a veteran leader in a much improved secondary
Alright, it’s time to vote in the polls below and keep an eye out for the results. While you wait, be sure to check out FanDuel Sportsbook, our sponsor for our Reacts Survey series.
