The Miami Dolphins failed to support quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with a qualified backup.
The Miami Dolphins quarterback room saw more turnover on Wednesday as the Jacksonville Jaguars signed quarterback C.J. Beathard to their 53-man roster. Now in his eighth season, Beathard spent roughly two weeks on the Dolphins practice squad before returning to Jacksonville.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have made the following roster moves, the team announced today:

Beathard reached an injury settlement with the Jaguars earlier this year and informed the Dolphins he would notify them once available to play again. Jacksonville’s decision to re-sign Beathard makes sense considering his recent experience with coach Doug Peterson’s offense. It follows an up-and-down game for Trevor Lawrence, who was sacked twice and took several hard hits in last week’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
While Jacksonville brings back a familiar face, Miami’s quarterback rotation continues to evolve. Four quarterbacks, including Tim Boyle and Tyler Huntley, have taken snaps for the Dolphins this season. Currently, only Tua Tagovailoa and Skylar Thompson are on the active roster.
In limited action this season, Thompson has completed 21 of 33 passes, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt. Thompson suffered a rib injury after being sacked five times in a game against Seattle, leading to Tim Boyle’s brief appearance at quarterback.
Miami also signed Tyler Huntley, a former Baltimore Ravens backup, who helped lead a 15-10 win over the New England Patriots but was placed on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury suffered against the Indianapolis Colts. He completed 39 of 66 attempts for 377 yards, one touchdown, and one interception before his injury on Oct. 20.
Injuries have made it challenging for Miami to sustain offensive momentum. The Dolphins managed just three points during Thompson’s 56 snaps this season, and with Beathard gone and Huntley on IR, Miami may need to turn to the waiver wire for quarterback depth behind Tagovailoa.
