The New York Jets have moved on from their 2024 free agent signing.
The New York Jets signed wide receiver Mike Williams to a one-year contract during the 2024 free-agency period. His stint with the Jets lasted eight months, with New York trading the former first-round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday ahead of the NFL’s trade deadline. The deal returned a 2025 fifth-round draft pick to the Jets.
The Steelers were interested in signing Williams this offseason. They now acquire the receiver, in his eighth year in the league, to provide a veteran presence opposite George Pickens in the Pittsburgh offense.
New York was ready to move on from Williams, who had just 12 receptions for 166 yards this year, after acquiring Davante Adams three weeks ago.
Williams has 321 receptions for 4,972 yards and 31 touchdowns in 97 career games. An ACL tear in Week 3 last year ended his 2023 season early.
The Miami Dolphins still have to face the Jets twice this year. The first meeting will be in Week 14 in Miami while the AFC East rivals will finish the year facing off at the Jets’ MetLife Stadium.
