NFL Playoff Picture: Eagles move up after Week 9 win

The latest update on Philadelphia’s postseason outlook.

Good news and bad news for the Philadelphia Eagles when it comes to the NFL playoff picture.

The good news is they held on to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars to win their fourth straight game and advance to 6-2. After leaving Week 8 as the No. 7 seed, they moved up to the No. 6 seed with the Green Bay Packers losing. Note that the Birds also hold a valuable head-to-head tiebreaker over the Pack after beating them in Week 1.

The bad news is that the Eagles continue to chase the Washington Commanders, who just aren’t losing, for the NFC East lead. Maybe the Commanders will finally drop a game when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 10? The Commanders are currently 2.5-point home favorites against a well-rested Stillers team that’s coming off their bye.

If the Commanders lose and the Eagles beat Dallas, Philly will overtake the NFC East lead. The Birds would then have a big opportunity to fortify their position atop the division by beating the Commanders on Thursday Night Football in Week 11.

But, hey, that’s me being guilty of looking ahead. For now, the Eagles need to focus on burying the Cowboys. Dallas might already be donezo but they’re really not coming back from a 3-6 hole.

Here’s a look at the current NFC playoff picture.
