Playing time analysis.

The official snap counts from the Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 9 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars are in! Let’s take a look and run through some analysis.

OFFENSE

  • Fred Johnson missed one snap on a two-point conversion try after getting banged up on Saquon Barkley’s touchdown run. Jack Driscoll filled in at left tackle for that play.
  • Grant Calcaterra actually led the Eagles in receptions with five on five targets. But he only gained 30 yards.
  • Saquon Barkley played his third-lowest snap count percentage but produced his most yards from scrimmage in a game this season with 199.
  • Jahan Dotson’s playing time wasn’t really impacted by A.J. Brown missing the second half; he played a normal amount relative to previous outings.
  • Johnny Wilson saw the biggest increase in playing time with Brown leaving early. Wilson logged his second-highest snap count percentage this season, only behind the 56.1% he played in Week 4 when the Eagles were without both Brown and DeVonta Smith. Wilson did not officially target since the pass that came his way in the end zone was wiped out due to an offensive pass interference penalty.
  • E.J. Jenkins saw some sparse playing time as TE3. He’s out of temporary elevations from the practice squad now that the Eagles have called him up three times.
  • Ainias Smith got two designed touches on his five snaps played.
  • Reed Blankenship continues to be an offensive safety on victory formation.
  • Ben VanSumeren officially logged a start at fullback and even made a catch, albeit for no gain. BVS was later ruled out of the game due to a concussion.

DEFENSE

  • Isaiah Rodgers started in place of Darius Slay, as expected.
  • Zack Baun and Nakobe Dean were very productive as the Eagles’ top linebackers.
  • Cooper DeJean nearly played the entire game in defense; the Eagles used a lot of nickel.
  • Jalen Carter almost played the entire game. His previous snap count percentage career high was the 89% he played in Week 3.
  • Brandon Graham played his highest snap count percentage this season as the second edge behind Josh Sweat. Nolan Smith’s playing time dropped a bit after being at 52% last week.
  • Bryce Huff was limited to just six snaps. Nick Sirianni’s postgame explanation on that front:

“Bryce came off the field after warm-ups. Again, I won’t talk too much about injury, but his hand was bothering him, and he was getting treatment in the locker room after warmups. So, we were trying to protect him there.”

  • Avonte Maddox’s sole snap on defense resulted in the Jags going after him. He got called for pass interference to give the Jags 18 yards on 3rd-and-10.

SPECIAL TEAMS

  • Sydney Brown had the forced fumble on punt coverage to give the Eagles a spark after the offense originally went six-and-out to open the game.
  • Kelee Ringo recovered Brown’s forced fumble.
  • Eli Ricks is up to 20 special teams snaps and zero defensive snaps played this season.

DID NOT PLAY

INACTIVE: Dallas Goedert, Darius Slay, Tristin McCollum, Tanner McKee, Darian Kinnard, Trevon Keegan

ACTIVE: Kenny Pickett

  • Goedert might be able to return in Week 10?
  • We’ll see if Slay is in jeopardy of missing multiple games or not.
  • McCollum was a healthy scratch for the first time all season.
